View Full Version : Crazy coolant leak "HELP"

The overflow hose is where the coolant is coming out. I know that dex-cool can be pink but this is almost the exact color of Pepto-Bismol. There is pressure in the overflow container, almost like it is over full. I have never needed to add coolant, it never ran hot but the transmission did start to get hotter than normal. Is it possible for the transmission fluid to be mixing with the coolant somehow?

I think the trans fluid can mix with the coolant if the trans cooler heat exchanger in the radiator leaks. If that's what is wrong it should at least be an easy fix for the dealer. I would advise having it flat bedded in.

Looks like your sporting some Road Armor there. Nice Hummer from what I can see http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif.

I would hope it isn't coolant & anti freeze. if so the side that makes the most presure wins!
then when you shut it off the process backs up into the other componant(trans full of coolant?)

I would make haste getting this looked at. I have only seen a couple in 27 years of wrenching, and it could get expensive.

Insaniac-

That is way too much of a tease now. Can you post some pics of your ride to the forum?

Thanks.

Yes, the trans fluid is over full, it still looks clean, not milky but thin.

The flat bed picked it up about two hous ago http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I am still in the process of customizing it and I will post pics and details at a later time, (like when I can drive it.)

Thanks for the info

I asked the tech at my dealership about this. They have had 6 different trucks come in with this problem! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I am thinking about running an after-market radiator to the transmission to avoid this from happening again. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I would say a better solution might be a heavy-duty radiator from one of the major manufacturers, such as Be-Cool or Griffin. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
