removing SUT roof rack

Well, I got hte gobi stealth for X-mas! What a sweet addition. Anyway, I couldn't get the stock roof rack rails off without removing the two rear marker lights and brackets. I read about some clips or something, but I guess they are only on the SUV??? Is this the only way to remove the rails?

It barely fit in my office! And it stayed there until I installed it on X-mas night at around 10:00pm! It is sweet. I just need to add the lights. I think my stock roof handles will still fit, I'll post pics soon.
