View Full Version : Is oem fuel door plastic or metal?

Resisted getting a fuel door because I wanted an oem door but wanted it in black. My brother in law says he can get it powder coated black for me for free but I want to make sure it's metal and not chromed plastic before I order one?

If anybody has one with a trashed finish they may want to sell me, let me know.

It's plastic. You can get a black metal one that holds up much better and locks on ebay or go direct to predatormotorsports.com thats what I have on mine and have been very happy.

Or you can get it from Jason, right here at Source Motors.

Which is your best bet as Jason is the person who supports this HUMMER FORUM.

Just look to the left side of the page and click H3 Accessories...

I'm using RealWheels chrome locking gas cap cover (made of aluminum). I installed it in August 2005 and so far no problems.

That's what I had in mind Green Lantern. I guess I'd have to paint it then since as far as I know, you can't powder coat plastics (anybody?). I've looked at most of the sources everybody has suggested but I really just want a plain black fuel door without a lock (or a handle where the lock hole is). Could have sworn I saw them on eBay before but can't find one now. I have a locking cap already, just want to cover it up.

It's NOT plastic, mine is powder coated! I believe they're alloy or something...

Here's a pic before the powder coat.
