I tried using OnStar's "Connections and Directions" today for the first time for directions. I was under the impression that the directions would come over the speaker as a voice GPS. Does anyone else have this OnStar package? I asked for directions to an area about 50 miles away. As I was driving, the gal said, "Ok, ready? You take the 405 north to the 10, then go west ...", and she continued for about another minute until she got disconnected. Of course, she didn't try getting back to me. I couldn't remember all the turns she was telling me unless I wrote it down .. which I couldn't do as I was driving. Oh well. I REALLY thought for the extra cost from the basic OnStar pkg, that this one would give me a sort voice GPS. :(

Had the same problem and called Onstar the next day to find out why. It seems that if you do not have the Navigation system Installed in your model they cannot download the directions and must read them to you. I do think they should have told me that when I originally upgraded

OK, so my free On Star ends in January, has anyone here decided it was worth the money? I am really undecided right now and int eh past year have never once ever used it except my monthly email. Opinions? Anyone have coupons or codes for discounts?

OnStar Hands-Free Calling requires a Hands-Free Calling?enabled vehicle, existing OnStar service contract, PrePaid minute package or enrollment in OnStar Shared Minutes Plan, and is not available in Alaska and some other markets.

from reading that on onstar.com
it sounds like you must have a OnStar service contract to uses the phone service

I ran out last month. Had about 35 minutes left and tried using them - no luck whatsoever, just said 'your units have run out' and tried to connect me to onstar.

when they called me (OVER AND OVER) to renew, they offered me a $149 renewal. I didn't bother - never used onstar once. I figure if the truck gets stolen, I'll just call onstar, given them my credit card number, renew, and have them lojack the hummer.

Onstar told me there was a way to download their message and play it back later. I once tried what they said to do to record them, and after they hung up - I could not figure out how to replay it. Not sure if he lied - maybe to get off the phone so he would not have to stay with me until I got where I was going.

F5, I think I read somewhere that YOU cancelled or did not renew OnStar and I seem to remember , I think, that you switched your OnStar Phone to Verision.

Without OnStar do you still have that set up?

if anyone still cares about this, the directions are turn by turn they are supposed to download to the car, and you will hear them as you need them. heres the thing on the onstar web site: http://www.onstar.com/us_english/jsp/plans/tbt.jsp, watch the demo if you want, it shows it. Next time an advisor starts telling you all the directions tell her "Shut the f*ck up stupid biycha nd download the directions to my car!" that should work out just fine.:)

I had to use onstar the other night, my wife made a quick stop and locked the keys in the car along with her cell phone. She called me with a friends phone and I called onstar and they unlocked it for her. I never remember her locking her keys in the car before so it is not a habit of hers. I had onstar on the phone and it was unlocked in less than a minute and every time I have spoken with people from onstar they have all been fantastic.

I think it is a great security feature and will continue the service after my trial runs out in May.

H3's are not equipped with the newest OnStar system (to the best of my knowledge) which downloads turn by turn directions into the vehicle and then prompts when to make a turn, merge, etc. So I think the best they will do is give you the directions, which you must copy down and then follow.

I've used Onstar multiple times. Seems accidents always wait to happen until I'm around. Had to call 2 of 'em in within 2 days of each other. The first one- the people were extremely grateful that I used the little red button for help. The 2nd accident guy was a dip**** dumbass drunk who had a fit that I tried to help him. Apparently he was wanted and was no so thrilled to see the cops.
