How much does the front bumper and winch combo weigh?
It looks pretty solid!!
Are you going to put 2 tow shackles on the rear bumper?
What about the license plate? on the spare?

The numbers on the front bumper are still out, but the rear is rated at 14,000 lbs.
The plate will be going on the body directly below the H3 emblem.
He is still putting the over-hood brushguard on it as well. Will end up being about 150-200 lbs total.

All of these products will be for sale.
There a still a few things left to do. The plastic bumper corners that hang below the rear fenders, will be reconstructed in metal.
From there the ladders, one on each side, will be mounted and attached to the roof rack.
The mini grill will be finished to fit around the winch fairhause.
The over the hood brushguard will be a fold down, like the one developed for the H2.
The winch, although not obvious, is a multimount.:excited:

Great Caesar's Ghost, that's cool! Did he use 4130 to keep the weight down? Is he making shock mount skids too?
Nice bunch of work there. Looks like a LOT of grinder dust laying around. When you get that thing out, wash it really good and get a Zaino Bros claybar, follow the instructions, and get that stuff out of your paint, it's hard on it.

IMO, the roof rack could be a little narrower to follow the lines of the sides a little better, and 5 lights on the front of it would look great.
The front bumper turned out nice, but it's really deep. I know it's got to be for the winch in the center, but do the lines need to go all the way to the sides? I was just wondering how much the approach angle has changed on the front. :o

I think the rack is meant to follow the lines of the fenders, that stick out quite a bit.
We'll see how the 4 lights look, but I went with because there are 5 marker lights. The H3 markers are more prominent than the H2's, I thought it would look too "busy". We will check it out when it's done.
The front bumper does come out further, but it is a bit higher (shallower....???) I think it could be better than stock.
It will look alot different when the over the hood brushguard is on.
Thanks Rocks :D

I think you'll be happy wth those lights btw. They are bright as hell. You can even upgrade the bulbs to extreme whites wich makes them twice as bright. You may consider getting solid covers on them if you go through windshields. Those damn lenses are expensive.

Well you've just reduced your approach and departure angle to a Honda Accord. Your rockrails stick way too far out and will hang you up. It looks grotesque. From what I've heard you H3ers were already limited in your abilities in moab. Now you have no chance in completing 95% of the obstacles there. You posted here for opinions? Not all will lie to you. Some like myself will be honest. From what I've witnessed and read on this board, you're quite an impressive wheelin gurly (And I agree.) so that's not the issue therefore this is far from a personal attack. But your rig is now less capable and I'm sorry to have to tell you that. Any experienced wheeler can tell you that. They're just being polite. Take them proto-types off. No consideration to wheeling was taken into account by the company that made them, just poor esthetics.

I dont understand why spend alot money on that stuff when the H 3 stills has the 5 clyinder when you can have a H 2 for all the extra money spent or more then getting a H 2. Looks GREAT I DO AGREE AND I LIKE THE LOOK.BUT i am saying that why spend and put that much in to something with such a small engine to begin with. i love my h 3 but i still think it needs alot more power over all compared to others its size.It amost like a plain jane house and spending alot of money on upgrades and never getting what you put into it or like the h 3 i have seen for sale on ebay with so much on them and they are aslking like 48.000 . you can have a h 2 for that.there comes a time when can you put to much into something for what its really worth.(dont flame me )but you can sometimes spend to much in to something for what is really worth and you have buried yourself into it .

No i never have drove a land cruiser but agree on that but its worth it in the blue book due to being factory. I did have 4 WD KING RANCH power stroke dooley and spent around 14 grand on lift tires and wheels and ranch hand bumpers 12 shocks and it was a huge loss when i got rid of it. i know you dont plan to sell it soon but just giving my opinoin thats what your thread asked in the begining. Correct, you put money into any vehicle- and you wont get it back... thats how things work. You put 14 grand into your power stroke dooley, but will probably lose a few grand when selling. Thats not what this thread is about. Its about celebrating a quality set of bumpers/winch mount and a great 'sounding' brushguard for the amazing h3.:beerchug:

And that's no lie HummBebe. I've been amazed at how the aftermarket people have stayed away from the H3. Hell, you'd think we'd bought a Nissan or sumpn!:crying:
Your Hummer's lookin' downright awesome. You simply MUST get Hummer Magazine to do an article on it to show Hummer what people expect! (psst, please PLEASE don't tell them that the I5 is a great engine though:shhh: )
If you could, stop on a set of scales and see how much your H3 weighs. It'd be interesting. You're building your very own safety factor in there! I'd love to see the look of a Toyota Tundra driver's face if you get into a fender bender with 'em! I plasma cut and made my own bumpers for my last Scout II. A new 4 runner and I backed into each other, a mutual accident. I scratched my steel bumper, he got $1500 damage. Hmmmm, maybe you're onto something!?
One thing I always wanted to do to my custom bumpers though was to cut in recesses on the corners for ultra heavy duty casters (imagine Frankenstein's carry-on luggage) so that when I got rock hung, it'd just roll. Goofy lookin', but functional eh? I had a receiver mounted winch because most often, I was pulling someone from behind me or I'd nosed into trouble and needed to pull myself back out. I had two batteries and a heavy duty amp. Boy did THAT show me where the old IH wiring harness was weak!
Any idea as to what the work's going to cost people to follow in your footsteps?

Sorry honey but a Land Cruiser is way above the H3s league.
All I'm saying is why would an experienced vet like yourself not feel that bumper is grossly overhanging. Don't be so nice just because it's a freebee for hummbebe(:giggling: ). Prototypes are just that, prototypes. Some don't need testing just by looking at it. That bumper is obvious visually that you're gonna get hung up alot more now along with those rock rails. It's embarrasing getting hung up or stuck. You're gonna experience this alot more now.
If you got a lift down the road, that would be a different story. It might actually look damn good. Maybe you should consider that. But the weak 5 engine still owns you:OWNED: . Or save the headaches and upgrade to a more capable STOCK H2.:D

Assuming that you are correct, that the bumper does get hung up (and you don't know that from these pics), it isn't going to hurt that bumper one bit, and she should be able to power off of it, or drag it.

That is an understatement! You can't look at the bumper w/o the brush guard installed to make a judgment on the aesthetics of it.

Dumbass, you obviously don't wheel at all to make an assinine comment like that.
Look at how far that thing sticks out, you can serve a thanksgiving dinner on that thing. And now that he's made the wings (which are meant to collapse) of that bumper solid it will get hung up even on the most easiest of obstacles. So because its a prototype does that mean she is paying for it, or just testing it for them. If so, she wheels the crap out of it, and then in return gives feedback on whether not its a good product. If its a piece of garbage, she takes it off. No big deal. No more production. Sounds and looks like she has the knowledge to make an educated decision. It may not be the best product for rockcrawling, but desert fun and snow, could prove to be excellent proctection and solid push/pull points. :beerchug:

Well,
Here are some other Truck Winch Bumper sample from other Manufacturers:
http://www.buckstop.biz/gmc99-04.html
http://www.gowarn.com/warn-mounting-systems-and-bumpers.asp

And some examples of similar styles.

So in comparison to others, I'd say it looks similar.

In addition, the "approach" angle issue is silly. As you can see by this HUMMER example:

Well, as I posted earlier, it can't be affected. The "Overhang" yes. But the winch is placed higher than the other options out there.
Keep in mind I'm running 35's and have the t-bars cranked with Rancho 9000's already. So my approach angle was way improved over stock to start with.

Just a side note for the Kid, wheeling ability has little to do with weight as long as you have the power and torque to move it. Weight can help you keep that rubber on the ground. Its wheelbase. Thats why the samuri does so well and full size trucks dont. It doesn't get hung up in the middle because the wheels are so close together. Fullsize vehicles have an easier time with obsticles like The Golden Crack where a stretch is needed.
And the bumper ish. I know what Donkey is saying, but the loss of angle is going to be so minimal, compared the protection to your front and rear end, and winch mount up high. Pros far outweigh cons, and looks f-in wicked tough at that.
Avoid bad take off angles and hit the obsticle at an angle not straight ahead, no big deal. :beerchug:

you have a finite amount of contact patch area. The more weight you add to a vehicle the more that finite area has to keep grip and move. Gravity is working against that in any climbing situation, so the weight is trying to transfer downhill, causing the the truck to slide. More weight, more slide.
Weight has has a TREMENDOUS amount to do with wheeling ability. No matter how much power you apply, if the contact patches can't grip due to the overwhelming weight, you are going nowhere.

Costs vs. benefits
it's adding less than 5% additional overall weight, does the additional weight with a winch "outweigh" the cost you give up with the possibility that you might lose some traction due to the additonal weight in a very few instances.
Everything is all about perspective.

I wouldn't be surprised if it is close to 200lbs heavier than stock. Remember that she's replacing a plastic fascia with steel, then add the weight of the winch. There's still a brushguard to add as well.

So do you guys think a couple hundred lbs on the front will affect traction in this case?
It's not just the weight on the front that matters, it's also the balance front to rear. The new rack and rear bumper will help take care of that. If you do put it on a scale, get a per axle weight along with the total weight.
The contact patch from your 35s should take care of the extra traction needed with all the extra equipment (especially aired down). But I would be thinking about the t-bars and shocks, with all the extra sprung and unsprung weight. You might bounce more onthe stock suspension with it all. Weren't you looking into new t-bars a while back?
And fwiw, if you haven't switched to synthetic oil yet, now would be a good time. Your engine's going to be working a lot harder. You might also put a temp gauge in your tranny to see if a tranny cooler is in order.

With the Rancho's I should be able to adjust to the "9" setting and be ok.
Yes heavy duty t-bars are on the list with a 30% higher spring rate. And Rocks and I were talking about doing a dual shock set up too. It's also on the list.

Hell, Bebes knows this is just fun now. Her truck will no doubt be badass. It all will be a learning experience and test with the newly modded equipment so seeing how it works will be cool.
Offroad equipment doesnt get perfect overnight. She is allowing folks to fabricate some completely new pieces of gear. I am sure there will be pros and cons from it all. But in the end it will be a good learning experience for all to definately BENEFIT from.
Go Bebes:beerchug:

I AM ENRAGED!!!!!
I find when people become angry they can experience many different thoughts, feelings, and physical reactions. Some people experience strong feelings of resentment or hostility, raise their voice, curse, use capital letters when replying to a post or throw things. Other people experience physical symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and increases in heart rate and blood pressure. For some, angry feelings become so overwhelming they feel ready to explode. Others may not know they are angry about a situation but will feel physically ill, guilty, or will overreact to other situations.

Hey Bebe, looks like you arrive in Colorado tomorrow. If you are driving back through on I-70 and have time to stop in the mts I would love to see it in person.....and you again. :D
If the timing works out I would be able to meet you in Frisco or we could meet up on Vail Pass and take some wintery photos. You definetly need to expand your photo collection with some winter shots along with the mods....It looks great in my humble opinion.
I am less than 75 minutes from Denver and Moab is only 4.5 hours away if you are stopping there as well..... ;
Just PM me if you think you will get the chance to stop, I'll give you my #'s.
The truck looks awesome.

We will be heading out of Denver at 6AM. We are stopping at the Mickey D's on the Idaho Springs exit to pick up another Hummer going with us to Moab for the day. We should be there at 6:30 AM, if you want to meet up.
I know it's early, but as far as I know it's the only stop we are making besides fuel. We want to be in Moab by noon to run a trail for photos.

No problembo I understand about wanting to keep moving once a road trip is started and get motivated to "get there".
By your schedule it looks like you could be coming through Summit County around 7:00 or 7:15. it may be worth it to stop at the Frisco Wayside or Vail Pass for a few moments if you want to get photos...it will be close to Sunrise up here.
But getting to Moab is defintely a worthwhile motivator. Chances are that actually getting up and out of Denver that early could be a challenge depending on what the Denver peeps have in sotre for you Friday night.
Don't forget about the skier traffic as well...it gets kind of thick that time of day...they all want to come up here and crowd our ski areas and lie about wanting to buy real estate from me. ;)
