Boston publicity ploy leads to 2 arrests (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070201/ap_on_re_us/suspicious_devices)
BOSTON - Several illuminated electronic devices planted at bridges and other spots in Boston threw a scare into the city Wednesday in what turned out to be a publicity campaign for a late-night cable cartoon. Most of the devices depict a character giving the finger.
Peter Berdovsky, 27, of Arlington, and Sean Stevens, 28, of Charlestown, were each charged Wednesday night with one count of placing a hoax device and one count of disorderly conduct, state Attorney General Martha Coakley said.
The two men worked together to place the devices, Coakley said in a news release announcing Stevens' arrest.
Highways, bridges and a section of the Charles River were shut down and bomb squads were sent in before authorities declared the devices were harmless.
But ATHF kicks ass! :jump:

If the Boston PD cannot tell the difference between something that looks like a bomb, and a FAWKING LITE-BRITE, they desere to have the city shut down.

I heard that!
We are "so afraid" now that even bad marketing stunts can cripple our daily lives... And now we are on such a witch hunt to blame, some nerds will go to jail over this...
Sad...............days these are....

Hahaha, I saw this on the news and laughed histerically. They even blurred out the middle finger of the Mooninite in one shot! :giggling: They probably could have found better places for these signs however. I would have been very amused though if I saw one of these. Poor guys that they're probably going to lock up for a long time now.

I'm pretty sure the judge is going to just give them a slap on the hand. These guys didn't do anything malicious. Funny stuff.

Even in failure they succeeded- now instead of a few motorist spotting the signs, the entire nation has heard about it.

In the end one thing is true, if it hurts stop, if it is hot don't touch and if you gota hide it bad things can happen if the worng person finds it. You cannot protect everyone from stupid people. They will find a way to kill or die. But my freedom and pocket book has to pay for all of it.
so whats for dinner tonight?

As they say, there is no such thing as negative press in the USA. :beerchug:

And there lyes the whole story, they new this would happen. They are brilliant in what they have done. They knew that a harmless add campaign would not put them in jail. They are sticking to thier story that it was not done to harm or shut down anything. And lucky for them everyone bit and it will all be washed away in the courts.
It is however sad, the we as a Nation have become so paranoid that we are blowing up ppl lunches and bags that we have left behind. I have left many of things and came back days later and it was still there. Now-a-days the Bomb Squad would have came and blown it up in a few hours. Sad very Sad!
A month ago my alarm was going off at the park, I went to meet the police and they freaked when they saw a pile of clothing buy the door. I told them to relax is clothing for the kittens and cats to sleep in at night. Still was billed for the false alarm. :twak:
