Morning all,

It is very cold here this morning (around 8 degrees). While coming into work this morning, I noticed I had left my HI 4WD locked from the night before. I was almost at highway speed when I noticed. I backed of on the throttle and hit the button for the normal, full-time 4WD selection. The button flashed for several seconds but it did not disengage. I shifted into neutral and let it slow to around 40 mph and then tried the button again. That time it disengaged.

Was something frozen because of the temperature, was I going too fast for it to disengage properly, or I am starting to experience a noteworthy problem? Has anyone else experienced this?

as far as i know you have to be in neutral for the transfer case to do its shifting. I dont know if you have to be under 40 or not, not sure about that part, but 40 seems to be the magic number for alot of things so that might be so. But I think there is nothing wrong with it, nothing frozen, its just that way so that you dont shift the case while it is engaged, i guess that can cause damage.

Yep, book says that to shift from 4 Wheel High to 4 Wheel High Lock (and vice versa), you have to be traveling less than 45 mph.

Yes, you have to be going 45 mph or less in order to shift it in and out of 4hi lock. To go into 4 low lock you have to be stopped and in nuetral.

Yep - I remember reading that now and I think it was the speed issue. Thanks for the responses :beerchug:

Yeah - I am going to write that on the windshield.

Actually, I did but I forgot what it said about it. I was kind of panicking this morning when I posted the thread.....:shhh:

Only when going between 4HI and 4LO.

To go into 4 low lock you have to be stopped and in nuetral.

You don't have to be completely stopped but you shouldn't be going more than a few MPH.
