GM has heard the complaints from customers about the poor placement of the lock/unlock and window buttons. Folks were accidentally pushing them w/ their elbow and it was difficult to reach at times. Check out the pic -- This is the new design for the front driver's door. There is a similar panel on the passenger side.

Wow, i was upset about the way it is but now im glad i have it the way it is now. Because im a big fan of that little handle i do a lot of my driving with my right hand on the steering wheel and my other holding that handle, same goes visa versa but with the shift lever (even though i have the auto it is a good resting place). I was thinking if they changed it, it would be a whole sperate panel like on the door itself, i didnt envision them taking away that handle.

I don't like it. Basically it takes away the left door handle for any functional use (because it's now too far back to easily grab when seated). Oh well, it's still not going to stop me from ordering a new H3 when/if a V8 model comes out :clapping:

Thats the way it should have been done in the first place!

If they hadn't been in such a hurry to get it out there, someone may have noticed stupid things like that.

this is GREAT! my wife and i are tall, long arms, and the current setup on our '07 is a bit of a pain, though we got used to it. i'm just hoping this new one can replace the old. would this be done under warranty, or essentiall free? would they replace just the inside panel or the whole door -- probably the former. so now when do they drop in that v6 or v8??????:excited: :excited: :excited:

It will take close to a month before door pads and other parts will be available at the dealer. There are approx 40 parts to change from the old to all new numbers. If you had the old model and the dealer were to switch out door pads, there are plenty of old model door pads in service for repair.

I'll bet there's gonna be a run on door panels at the HUMMER Dealership. Or..start watching ebay... :D

it's all in the brownies:dancingbanana: i emailed my dealer. wasnt even aware of the change, but emphasized no warranty coverage, but would give me a 'deal' if they can retrofit. i probably wont even bother since we're used to the original now and its a leased vehicle.

I have a serious question, REALLY...

Can you get HIGH just by eating (ah, stuff, you know) like mixed in with brownies etc.

Never did drugs, just booze and women, so i'm kinda virgin in that area.

Are you checking the bell and howell site or PBS, if so, it takes up to two months to update.
I'll take a look Monday at the new site and see if there are any part numbers for the new door panels.
Can it be updated...sure, but it might take some splicing and adding some wires to the connectors (not sure).

No splicing needed. A jumperwire is now used to extend the door harness on left and right front doors. As far as parts availability, probably will be a month or more as we are just keeping up with the plant.

I don't mind the way the door handle looks, but will the rear doors be upgraded as well?

I have to say, that I'm torn between the two panels.

On one hand I like the new style, and would seriously consider having new panels put in to replace the old.
But...
On the other hand, It's nice to have the original 2006 design, as it is all 1st model year. Motor, furniture, etc.

I wonder if this will fix the access to the seat controls, too?

I haven't gotten in one and adjusted the seat -- but GM says that the change gives you more access to seat controls by thining out the door panel..

I'm thankful the '06 came the way it did, fits me perfectly. Must be my long legs but with the seat all the way back, access to the buttons is not a problem.

Of course, just my $.02.....:D

I didn't mind the first design. The only part I didn't like was getting to the heated seat switch and the power seat switches.

By looking at the pic, it would seem that the handle to open and close the door would be in an awkward spot now.
