I was just thinking about this today in light of the GM/Chrysler talks. What do you think?
I think it would be good for GM dealers in general, as they could suddenly be selling Jeeps and Hummers in the HUMMER locations and generating a lot more income. But then what would you do with current Jeep dealerships? Would they be closed? Would GM sell Hummers there? I think it would also bring more customers to HUMMER showrooms.
I did read something that sparked my interest today though: If GM bought Chrysler, they would be assured #1 status for much longer vs. Toyota. :shhh:
Our local Hummer dealer, Hall Auto (http://www.hallauto.com/), also sells Jeep. The buildings are about 200 yds from each other so moving them next to each other wouldn't be a problem.

I think that whoever owned the dealer would be making a lot of money, and the salesman or women would also be making more money off commision. Still i have no problems with Jeeps if they wer sold at the same dealer so what get what you want. Also i dont think theyd be in the same dealer like GM owns Cadilac, and Chevy, yet you dont see all three being sold in the same dealer.

if gm does but chrysler or there is an allience the two companies would probably still stay independent. Just like DaimlerChrysler is now, a consumer cant tell that they are together without looking it up. I doubt that they will consolidate all assets and get rid of the chrysler group. That would be complete suicide. The way i see it only managment will merge or colaborate and thats bout it. By management I mean everything thats involved with running the company but that is hidden to the consumer, so it would be financial, engineering, and whatever else.
We almost bought a Jeep to fix up to wheel. But I didn't have to. Hummer came out with a really nice one that I didn't have to modify at all to wheel. And it has a V8, and leather, and lockers, and A/C (that works) plus stock 35" tires. NOTHING ELSE HAS THAT OFF THE SHOWROOM FLOOR.
Why take a step backwards?

My dealer has both.
And if I remember correctly, didn't Jeep and Hummer (Am General) both originate from the same company many years ago, and then split into two? Kinda like long lost brothers anyway. :)
