View Full Version : Duramax H2 (from factory)...ever gonna happen?

I have always been a fan of the H2. I like the styling, and I like it's off-road capabilities. I currently drive an F350 4x4 crew cab PowerStroke, and love having a diesel.
The ONLY reason I have not bought an H2 is because I don't want another gas engine. I want a diesel, and no...I can't afford an H1. Not that I'd want one anyways...it isn't a very good "daily driver". The H2...with a Diesel...would fit just right.
Anyone know when/if GM is going to allow this to be built from the factory?
Yes - I am aware of the companies doing the Duramax conversion, but I don't want to buy my H2 twice!!

There are lots of previous threads about this subject. Do a search and you'll find out, I'd tell you but honestly I cant remember the outcome. Dont think its gonna work out in your favor but I could be wrong.

supposedly yes the diesel is coming, they are trying to get approval to put it in a less then 1 ton truck.

Dealer told me that it won't fit in the existing H2 design without extreme modification, so no diesel in Hummer until 09 (I think) when Hummer gets a makeover.

It will fit, is at least 200lb more weight on front components . Here's one picture of eng. compartment. Will post pic next week of H2 off roading.

That doesn't make any sense because they offer the Duramax Diesel in a 3/4 ton truck (HD 2500).
There is also plenty of room because several aftermarket companies are doing this conversion already...so that also should be a non-issue.

Who knows when it'll happen, but I think a diesel H2 would be sick. It'd have the bark to match the bite!

I was at the recent Atlantic City Car Show last month and the Hummer display was there. I asked about a diesel version for 08 and this is what I was told. GM is currently reworking the diesels for (low sulfur) or something, so that they can comply with federal emissions requirements for new vehicles. Although they are not actually working on one for the Hummer right now she said that they have been told that if the engineers are able to work out everything that has to be done for the motors for other trucks then they might look into doing a H2 version. She said that there have been MANY requests for an H2 diesel and it looks like it is in the very near future. As far as 08 goes it would be better known by the time the New York car show hits.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed. :excited:

It's ironic you posted this... yesterday, I talked to two companies that have shops side by side. One is a Hummer dealer alternative, the other is a custom fab shop. (mechanical, not body)
I was just talking to them about how much it would cost to do a diesel swap. They were checking into and would let me know....
I think it'd be a great idea.

i'm sure a diesel is coming. I love my gas engine, but if I had the choice, I'd go for diesel. Hopefully my next hummer will indeed be a diesel

Best answer I have read. I think usetosellhummer covers it all.....
NO DMAX (and not for the strange reason about less than one ton)
New GM Diesels are coming
New Design coming....
So, I vote for usetosellhummer's answer that sounds very logical.:dancingbanana:
