View Full Version : Dealer Takes my Alpha for a Joy Ride
So I take my hummer into a hummer dealer for service on Friday for a small leak where water is coming into the passenger compartment when raining. I get a notification on my gps tracking system friday night that the vehicle is out of its normal boundaries where I drive. I login into the tracking system and my hummer is on the other side of town cruising what appears to be strip mall parking lots. I immediately called the dealership (around 7:30PM) to see if someone stole it from the dealer, they checked and said a tech "Checked it out", unknown why. Not real happy, will pay a visit to the dealer today. Wonder how often this happens.

Probably more often than you think, especially with something like an ALPHA.
I refuse to trust any dealer with a vehicle unless it's absolutely the only choice. I've even had some less-than-stellar service at Lynch.
I suppose if it happens again, I would make a call to the PD first, and then the dealership. That would show them. :D

screw that, you will havethem by the balls if you call AM General and ask for the area rep to call you back. your service stisfaction survey is worth 3 H2 or H3 surveys and you got em by the balls.

I agree with "usetosell", even though I only own the 3. I would have there arse if anyone drove it with out my permision. I have had water leaks and no one needed to drive it.
And also like "Blue" had said. It is an Alpha and some jerk is driving it trying to be something he isn't.
And worse yet cruising a mall :giggling:

All HUMMER surveys are important, and they all only count as ONE!!

For a water leak there is no reason to drive your rig at all, so find out why it was driven and discuss it directly with the GM of the store. He has the power to satisfy you or compensate you if thats what you are looking for.

The furthest they should have to take it is the nearest hose pipe, or wash facility. also interested in what tracking system your using. I'd like to get one for my 99.

Wow, thats weak. I'd have them compensate you like $100 for every mile they drove!

Update:
Spoke to service advisor this morning. He said he heard what happened last night and had spoken with the tech. He claimed they had to dump so much water on the truck to find the leak that it got some wiring wet and they started to get a check engine light, so the tech drove the truck to dry off the wires and confirm the truck was working correctly.
I told him the explanation was bull-**** and he needed to take some responsibility for what happened since they put on over 65 Miles on the truck and they were cruising through 2 strip malls/shopping centers with the truck on the opposite end of town. He said he would look into further.
I will be taking up with the GM on Monday and possibly AMG if I do not get some better answers.
The tracking device was a trimble trimtrac, my company actually sells them.

The H1 survey is weighted! I know I collected bounus on several and they count as more then one. i had to get one removed from a CSI quarter or louse 15k. So check you facts man. If one H1 service survey is bad your changes of kitting CSI bonus are next to none.

my god! I would be so mad right now! We had several mechanical problems with our h1 when we had it, we raised hell and a service tech had to travel to FL from AM general and work on the truck. I just cant imagine them putting 65 miles on your truck what b.s. Im not exactly sure what Id want if I were in your shoes, Id deffinatly want something in exchange for the horrible service you recieved. Our h1 ended up getting leather seats. hahaha I suppose it was a fair trade off for all the mechanical problems we had, those seats were much more comfy. By the way Is your Alpha the hard or soft top, either way beautiful truck.

I roadtest every truck I work on unless it is just an oil change, mostly to identify any other problems with the truck that the customer may not be aware of. However my roadtest consists of no more than 3-5 miles, 65 is to say the least A little excessive. If it needed to "dry out" park it in the lot overnight and drive it the next day to verify problems are corrected.

I would go Beirut on the service manager.
ATSI, you should have tried to track it down your rig and catch the guy cruising it.

so man its been a while since you posted this, what happened? I hope everything has been fixed for you. Keep us updated man!
I had a sit down meeting with the service manager, service advisor, & H1 tech who worked on the H1. The only person not there was the Tech Assistant who actually took it for the ride. The H1 tech said he had to spray so much water into the engine area to locate the leak in the firewall that the water got into some wiring and he was getting a check engine light and some strange speedometer readings. He said it was his decision to have his assistant drive test it to warm up the engine and try to dry out the wiring. I told him the last thing you do when wires are wet is to apply current and explained that he should have just let it sit overnight to dry out. He would not budge from his position and said it was his desicison to let the asst. tech drive it to dry out the wiring. It was 7:30PM on a friday night when the H1 was driven off the lot, he claimed they were working late. They had no explanation why the assistant tech was driving it around parking lots at some strip mall areas.
They ended up filling up the main tank with gas and saying they would speak to the assistant tech, the dealership has called me twice since the incident, I think trying to feel me out for how I am going to respond to the survey.
