I think I have a bad ignition switch (truck will not start or turnover or anything when key is put into 'start' position).

I have a new switch and was starting to replace. I read two posts on this forum that says the bottom cover just pulls off from yanking on it. I have tried this for the last 30 minutes and still can not get it off. I can release the two rear (closest to the steering wheel) and the two sides clips though there must be some front clips that just will not let go. I have put so much force on it that I am surproised I have not broken some plastic already.

What am I doing wroong?

I think one problem is the tilt steering knob on the left/bottom of the steering column. It sticks out from the bottom cover (the one I am trying to remove), and I think the knob is stopping the cover from coming off.

Please, any advice would be appreciated. I really want to get the truck working again this weekend.

Thanks

OK, I got it off. And yes I did break a couple of the clips. And yes, it was a bad ignition switch. H2 runs and starts again.

By the way, I did figure out to take the tilt-steering knob off - it easily pulls off with pliers and a rag around it to prevent damage. From there, getting the front clips top release was impossible without breaking the front clips.

I got it back together, and yes there is a slight sag now in the front of the top/bottom covers. No big deal though, and I may eventualy add a little glue or something if I bugs me in the future.
