View Full Version : I'm test driving the new 2008 H2 off road for GM Canada

Took it out for a spin with dna and his sweet white H2.

My thoughts:

-The exterior is the same except for the color matched lower front and rear bumpers.

-Can't tell the difference in off road behavior between my old 03 and this 08.

-The interior is pretty nice. Gotta get use to the new vent design.

-The rims are the same. I thought they were gonna be redesigned but I guess not.

-Can't tell any power difference with the new engine.

More pics to come. There are a few things in the interior that the brochure never showed. It's pretty cool.

P.S. I'm not allowed to post any front end pics yet since this is the first 2008 H2 in Canada.

Here's a poser shot. Notice the color match on the lower bumper? It looks cool. The winch is mine BTW.

Let us know how it handles doing "V" Ditch, is there alot of feedback in the steering when going over large rocks? Have the Tierods been upgraded or is there an equal amount of toe-in as with previous models? The model you are testing, does it have coil-over rear or does it have air? Whent the unit is side by side with your truck, do you notice any difference in ground to body height, approach/departure angles? Is there more "rubbing" occuring when this unit is used as compared ot yours? Has there been any noticeable improvement in the drive train that you can feel since this unit has the 6th gear? Sorry for all the questions Dennis, but other than all the interior make-up and 6.2L motor, I just can't seem to get motivated too much about it. According to the specs I've seen it has less ground clearance and approach/departure angles are smaller then the 2003. 5 years later and really not much has changed.

Cheers and Have Fun!

Let us know what kind of MPGs it gets, assuming your not doing just off roading.

Have fun!

Hahaha, you're so full of it Dennis :jump:

Old style mirrors, no lights on the rear bumper insets, doesn't have the new rims... no new GM tag on the door beside the H2 logo, and the handle grab on the interior A column is the old one, not the newer, more squarish one.

Nice job painting your rear bumper tho, looks great :beerchug:

take a look at the post below this title as "2008 h2 pics" if you notice, the pics that are of the front with the colored lower bumper...

its HAS old-school mirrors! Also, the front end still has the letters on the grill. Not all of them but the ones that show the side slope gradiant, etc.

still, i need interior confirmation since i only wish a winch, those tires and gear come stock on the 08's!!

BA_BLAM!!!!

http://www.seriouswheels.com/2008/2008-Hummer-H2-Fording-Clearence-1280x960.htm

actually, looking at closely... the interior still has the "titties" a/c vents. This could very be a 03-04 model retrofited, if that, with the new drivetrain.

Hey dennis, can you open up that hood and see if you can tell if the motor is the new one or a 6.0L.

DNA's white H2 is an older model.

Mine however is obviously the 08.

Some of the upgrades shown in those "Other" pictures won't necessarily make it to the actual 08.

Like mine, the new 08 WILL retain some of it's old design as this 08 brochure pic clearly shows.:OWNED:

dennis, not trying to pick a fight with ya, its i have seem it before. Look at the last camaro. There have been a few running around with the to be new drivetrain setup for testing. Manufactures do this all the time.

Not saying that is the case, its that i have seen two different pics and mods of the new 08. Personally, i really dont care. However, some show a new grill, new interior, painted lower bumpers, the 05-06 mirrors...

its just interesting to me when i see pics of what could very be the new 08 model with the painted lower bumper, however, everything else, visually, says its an 03-04 model. If your is an 08 model, than, great! if not, its probably an older model with the upgraded drivetrain being test. Also, if yours does have the new interior, well, then, thats great as well! I never said, NO, its not an 08, i just said it could very well be an older model with new hardware being in it.. no biggie!!

However, i still feel that the one your are testing isn't like the ones in the scenic pics of the GM site. Small little details don't match, therefore probably one being used to for drivetain testing. Question, is that lower bumper removeable or is the whole rear bumper on large piece?
