Long Trip Alone

Getting ready to drive from Lakeland Florida to Denver Co. I have 36" IROK's Super Swampers on her right now. These tires should do pretty well on a 1800 mile trip other than the noise.
I got all my fluids checked, oil changed etc...any other things I should repair/replace before I make the run. Also, I have a Air Raid air cleaner that is getting pretty dirty, and easy way to clean it out before I make the drive and get it replaced when I get to Denver?

Air Filter:
I found it extremely difficult to replace the cover once I had it off. I had to remove the whole assembly and then put the cover on and put it all back together. Maybe I did it wrong, but don't do this on the road or at the last second.

IROK's:
Are they bias plys? I have heard generally bad things about bias ply tires, especially INTERCO's. If they are radials, I think you will be ok. But bias plys tend to heat up under load, and I'm sure over distances like that, and can fail.

Will they say Radial or Bias Ply on the tire?

Yes, it should say.

In your size:

The Bias have eight plys.

The Radials have ten.

Did that trip a few months ago. Nice drive, but I did it in my Motorhome might not have been so much fun without a mobile place to sleep!

This, and other testimony, is why I mentioned a concern with the bias plys.

I've driven from here to Denver twice with H2's, one was lifted, and it's an easy trip. You'll be grabbing 64 in KY so have fun.

Word of advice, when reaching St Louis, stay far right (the highway splits and comes back together) before you get to the bridge because immediately after the bridge you have to exit right onto 70. Traffic can be heavy here and you don't want to try to clear lots of travel lanes in it. Have your camera ready for pics of the Arch.

Watch the gas gauge west of Kansas City to Denver, fuel stops are quite a way apart at times.

I traveled from Chicago to Denver twice--both times I ended up with a lot of bug-kill on my grill and windsheild. You'd think at this time of year there wouldn't be a lot of bugs but I traveled in May on one trip and had as much as in September.
Has anyone used a bug screen of some sort?

anyone have a image or a good copy of a newer GM map disk. Mine is tore up, and I would sure love to have one for the trip..
