Anyone have one of these racks? The GM and Gobi models are mucho dinero. Looking for alternatives and this one seems to be modestily priced compared to the others. I have hight issues for parking, so I am looking fo something low profile.

I guess it depends on whether you have a sun roof or not. I like it, but would like to know if it would attach to the factoy cross bars. E-mailed the company, but have noot heard back from them.

looks a little cheap for the Hummer man

Saw one of these on eBay - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Surco-S4050-Roof-Rack-Aluminum-Black-Anodized-Summit_W0QQitemZ320152520750QQihZ011QQcategoryZ336 51QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem

The price is great, but I agree it does look a bit cheap for the Hummer man. For one thing, it is not one piece, but several bolted together. I am a little leary about the racks that mount to the crossbars. This past weekend, Hunner had his rack (not a Surco) move forward due to the channels not holding up. I believe a second spare was mounted on top, so the weight might've been too much for the crossbar channels.

I am thinking more along the lines of the Defender rack sold by Off Road Unlimited. It looks and feels pretty stout, one definitely made for the Hummer man!! :D

The Surco racks do have a good price - but basically no warranty. They look and feel relatively sturdy, but I'm thinking there's a reason why they may be less expensive than everyone else (quality shortcuts, etc.).

I saw the defender on a buddys rig and those things are solid even for being mounted to factory roof rails.. Twice the price, but even with 4 large hellas mounted on there, its rock solid. You get what you pay for.

Ended up getting the rack. It was a bit to assemble, but it is rock solid. Each of the floor slats along with the rack itsef bolts into the the existing crossbars. Loaded it up twice and it proved to be very sturdy. Plus, I still clear the garage. Overall, I was quite impressed. I plan to add two lights to the rack next.

I think it looks pretty good up there.

How much extra height does that guy add above your roofline?

How does the rack attach to the factory cross bars?

Have you got a pic showing the width of the rack?

Inquiring minds want to know.....?

The little guys is there for unloading. I lay down up there so that there are no clearance issues. Just don't tell his mother!

I can take some pics this week. Its raining hard here at the moment. Surco recommented a wider size (50x60), but that is to go with their crossbars. I went with the 45in width so that I coud use the Humer crossbars that came with the H3.

If you have the H3 crossbars, you will note that accessories attach to the channel in the crossbars. You just slide out the rubber piece. Its my understanding that's also how the factory rack attaches. Once the Surco rack is assembled, you just slide the rack and the floors slats into the crossbars. There are square shaped bolts that slide into the channels. Just tighten up the bolts and good to go. I had to adjust it all once due to the fact that the H3 crossbars lock only into certain notches in the rack rails. My adise is just to keep everything loose until you mount the rack.

Went with this rack for 2 reasons:

1. needed a lower prifile rack so thatI could still fit in the garage; and

2. its made of black powder coated aluminum.

Here in the northeast there is alot of salt on the readsin the winter and previous stell racks eventually rusted.
