View Full Version : Do H3s have "Trailer Brake Wiring Harness Adapter"?
I need to add a Trailer Brake controller to our H3. Is there an adapter available or required, so I don't have to cut into the wires that just plugs in?

My 06 with the trailer package has wires for a controler hanging under the dash to the right of the steering column. Sorry I don't know the color or what's needed to use them.

To the right of the steering column all the way down by the tranny hump attached to the light wiring.
The Black Wire: (+)Battery
The Red Wire: Brake light
The White Wire: (-) Ground
The Blue Wire: Trailer Brake
I am assuming you HAVE trailer plug on your H3.

My h3 came with two adapters so that the trailer wiring harness on the back next to the hitch can connect with the trailer plug.
when you do this, the brake lights and turn signals should be transmitted automatically to the appropriate lights on the trailer.
If you have a trailer equipped with surge brakes, they should function automatically.
That's my 2 cents

One of the adapters is a cig liter socket.
The other has the flat 4 pin adapter.
surge brakes may work, need to find out exactly how the are set up. some has a 'back up' block or lock to flip so u can back it up w/o brakes working.
Thanks on posting the brake controller wiring info, I've got to put one in for the horse trailer.

Maybe you can get a factory Trailering wiring harness and and plug it in?
thx for the wiring layout. I was referring to electric barkes and not surge brakes.....
Of course surge brakes would work...LOL

Adapted my factory set up with a 4 pin type. It plugs in and even lights up when I hit the brakes. Cost $9.00 @ either K Mart or Wall Mart. :grouphug:

15085418 harness kit, same as the H2 and most pick ups.
Be careful with that Partsguy. The 2006 and above H2s have a different pinout than previous model H2s and trucks!
Also, I am not aware that the H3 has provisions for this harness to plug into. However, GM nicely included some loose hanging wires under the dash for the H3.

Ok you're right on 2007 on up it is pre wiried for the brake.
2006 on down will use this harness, Doc#1866253

Gm is or I am wrong.... I went out and looked at my 06 H3 and it as you said Tom has no provision for this harness.,.....
Well just proved to me I need to keep my mouth shut more often,my shoes taste bad.;)
H2 requires new harness for 06 & up
H3 has no harness - just loose wires under dash
shoes taste bad - ask me I know:iagree:
