What was your fianl cost and what kinda contract did you have to sign? I'm hoping that iPod will open compatibility to other carriers than just AT&T and Cingular. Maybe....Jamie:excited:

Has anyone from Canada purchased one of these and either attempted to activate it in Canada, or activate it in the U.S. and then use roaming in Canada? I was wondering if the latter would work and if AT&T offers an unlimited roaming package. I watched the activation process and it requires an SS#, so that would seem to make it impossible to register in Canada. :(

I wish.
I hear they're going for $2200 on e-bay right now.
I couldn't see why not they can't work with a compatible service here if you were to bring it into Canada. You can do it with Japanese phones.

Not if they're vendor-locked like most phones. I'm sure someone will hack one soon enough and figure out the codes.

Yeah, and hopefully they'll have removable batteries, be able to use 3G and Edge, and fix any other crap they screwed up with the first version. :giggling:

I don't understand why anyone would pay 2000$ on ebay for one. The apple stores have them, plenty. I got on the line at the soho apple store at 5:00 pm friday (my girlfriend had been holding a spot for me from 3:30), doors opened at 6. I had my phone by 6:45. When I got out of the store there were only about 20 more people on the line to get in. There is no shortage for the moment. I was at the store yesterday and they still had them, and I'm sure you could get them online as well from apple. Anyone who got on line for even 1 day overnight is a total dufus.
I have never had a smartphone before, and because I found most features on other phones akward or even impossible to figure out I have never used them other than for texting and phone calls. This phone changes all that I was using every feature on this phone within an hour of activating it. It is so intuitive. The screen is amazing , brightness and image resolution. love the way you use the web browser by using your fingers on the screen. its in credibly fast on wifi and as someone who has nothing other than an actual dsl connection on the laptop to compare with, I did't think the edge net speed was all that bad either. The forum pages come up relatively quickly on it. :dancingbanana:
So far I can't criticize ATT for the service, but there part in the whole roll out is just short of abombinable. I originaly went to an ATT store near work Friday morning and signed up for a 2yr contract and got a150$ phone for 29$. Since I had to pay for the full iphone and it has no insurance plan I figured the almost free phone was an insurance plan of other sorts. I also enjoyed the fact that I conceived of a way to get one over on ATT. As I was leaving the store the manager said he was going to tell the crowd outside that they were only selling to new customers. As I had just become an ATT customer, it appeared that my plans to get an iphone were now seriously f'kd. Fortunately Nina voluntered to head over to the apple store right away to hold a place till I could get there. As I walked out of an ATT store I told them that it seemed like a really crappy way to treat there existing customers. The other screw up they made affected a friend of mine who also got the phone. She tried to activate her phone at noon on Saturday and wound up waiting 10 hours for ATT to activate the phone and she was already a customer as well. They clearly were not ready for this and considering they were hoping to have a mass sign up they should have been.

I got mine yesterday at an Apple Store. Just walked right in and got it. Still had plenty left. The apple website still has them for sale also. I can't imagine the moron who would pay 2 grand for one on e-bay instead of the retail price on the apple website. I was an existing AT&T customer and it only took me about 10 minutes to get the phone hooked up after I got home.

apple stores had tons of them fri ,i waited in line for an hour at a att store only to have them run out of phones 4 people ahead of me.i ran to the apple store in the mall and walked in and out with one.i was already an cingular customer so it took only 5 minutes to activate it on itunes.i had a blackjack before this, that had edge and 3g,3g is definately faster but isnt available in all areas,so most of the time i was on edge anyway.edge seems faster on this phone for some reason.the phones do have a removable sim card but are locked to att,im sure someone will unlock them soon. check here for alot of infohttp://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=115

Damn! Those are nice pictures from a camera phone.
I took a look at the iPhone today and have to say I'm impressed. Nice size and heft to it. Very nice design and materials. The optical glass face is brilliant. Of course I had to look up www.elcovaforums.com for a look-see. The WiFi was very fast and the site looked exactly the same as it does on a full sized computer. Have you guys with iPhones noticed how there's a ".com" button on the keyboard? Nice touch. I played with a few other applications on it and was also impressed.
I'll be picking one up eventually.

Well I brought this page up while on the edge network this morning while sitting in the park between two meetings. I would say the page loaded in about 25 seconds, maybe a bit less. Considering I was sitting in a park in the city and able to surf the forum while there I'd say it's damn good.

graphics are great, websites look just as they would on the computer! EDGE is a bit slow, but the wifi is awsome. My battery is the only thing Im having a hard time liking. The thing dies by 4:00 every day, but im now armed with chargers at work, at home in the car etc... so I should be ok.
Im glad I finally found something to break my Crackberry addiction.

I got both a 4 and an 8. I activated the 4 to see if I liked it. If I didn't I would sell both or keep the 4 and sell the 8 etc... But now I'm kinda stuck since I have the 4 all configured the way I want, I may just sell the 8 or give it to one of my parents etc... Ill probably never need all the capacity, all though I am using the ipod feature more then I ever have with a stand alone iPod.
