View Full Version : H3 Nav option

Does anyone have information on the eventual availability of the navigational system in the H3? While I understand that this option is currently under “constraint,” I’m not sure I understand exactly what that entails. Does this mean there are technical problems or that the factory just hasn’t allocated the time or materials to building with that option yet?
This past weekend I visited a Colorado Hummer dealer to see about placing an order for a rig with exactly the items I want. The salesman didn’t seem to have a clue about the GPS option, other than the fact that his computer did not even list the navigational system. Right now this is the only hold-up for me, and the lack of information is frustrating. Can anyone help enlighten a potential Hummer owner.
Thanks

Constraint means there is something holding the component from being available. The nav system from what I heard, was that there was a wiring issue. They say fourth quarter availability, which is October - December

You can just go with an aftermarket nav system that will probably be better and cost less.

I like the OnStar directions service better because you don't have to look at the screen to find where you are going.

From what I was told, it is the suppliers problem, due to ramping up production. As you probably know, this has become a very popular accessory item on many vehicles, and yet there are few manufacturers of these systems.
You do realize that if it is similar to the one used on the C6 Vette, it is not that great of a system, and will not display most off-road trails like a Magellan Topo GPS would.
I have an Eclipse navi in mine, fits perfectly, have some pics here http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/2671031121/m/6641014031

Thanks for all the input. Raz's Eclipse looks awesome.
I'm am considering an aftermarket system, however my primary concern with taking an aftermarket route (as opposed to going with the GM system) is the integration of some of the other features that I want to use with the H3, such as Onstar and satellite radio (either XM or Sirius).
Also, does an aftermarket nav system require an additional antenna (other than the one already on the H3) or can it be tied into the existing one? And what sort of price range am I looking at?

Installers use a special wire harness to keep your onstar working along with door chimes.
Hey RazM,
Which Eclipse AVN is that?
How do you like it?

I am at work now and don't have access to my other pics of the system. I can tell you this, It is an Alpine 310 indash with sirius sat, ipod connection in the glove compartment, dvd, and a alpine 10.4" overhead. Also in the tailgate on the right side where the compartment is I also put an X box...I can watch or playu xbox on either monitors or both at the same time..The X box also acts as a 2nd dvd player.

Sounds like a great setup 007. One question, why did you go with Sirius? Just curious.

That would make sense. I had compared the two lineups a while back and XM still looked better to me. Could have something to do with the fact I already have it and know the stations.
