While on my trip to Reno the check engine light came on. The traction failed message also showed on the DIC. I had Onstar run a diagnostic and said it was a rough idle. The truck showed no symptoms of a rough idle until we parked it overnight and then started it up the next day. After turning it off and back on the rough idle went away. We continued driving it around Tahoe and all the way back to Oregon. No problems.

I took it to my dealer yesterday and they said they will have to replace the cylinder head. I had heard about other early H3's with head problems and thought it won't happpen to me. Well it did. I am just glad it showed a early warning sign and didn't give me any major problems while on my trip. I have 30,000 miles on my truck.

the dealer has me rolling in an 07 black Chevy impala!

While it's in the shop they are also checking on the traction failed message. Onstar said it was bad communication from the sensor.

I will hopefully get back my Hummer on Monday.

That sucks! Did the dealer know how long they were gonna have it?
Hope they get it taken care of for you!

I've got an early build too. I'm debating whether I should got look at the '07's. Has anyone heard of the '07 having the head problem too??

*** UPDATE ***

Well, They jumped the gun on the diagnosis. I just picked up my H3 today. They did not have to replace the head. Once they scanned the computer it showed no signs of needing the head replaced.

They did a reprogram of the powertrain control module with latest calibration and replaced the sensor for traction control.

I hope that this is good news for me and no head replacement in my future. Knock on wood!! :twak:

most likely delayed the inevitable. the good sign is that GM is putting on complete new head assemblies(so you get new valves, springs etc also)
