Bevo,
Do NOT buy part number 15120706 for your 2003 H2. That part number is for the 2005 (and possibly late 2004) H2s. I am working on this now.
The Bose amps were changed in mid 2004 to a lower grade model. 2003s have the "LUX" amp, just like the Cadillac Escalades. The later 2004s and the 2005s have the "premium" Bose system. You can tell the difference my the audio selections available on your radio. If your audio selections include "Normal, Driver, Rear, and Spacious" you have the "LUX" amp. If your selections include "Custom" you have the "premium" amp.
This is important, as the 2005 Hummer has the "premium" amp. The TNR for the "premium" amp vehicles appears to be different than for the "LUX" amp vehicles. Picking the wrong combination appears to not work (no audio).
The 2005 Escalade appears to have the TNR and "LUX" amp combination.
Klaus,
Thanks for the heads up... I do have the "Lux" amp. I would like to replace the stock 6 disc head unit with the TNR and XM. Any halp on P#'s and instructions would be appreciated.

Is it TNR or INR.
quote:
Delphi Entertains Consumers at CESAt its CES exhibit (Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall, Booth #7113), Delphi will showcase the latest technologies available for in-vehicle entertainment and connectivity. The company will also demonstrate several future products.
"From the time radio was integrated into vehicles, consumers have craved entertainment and information while commuting and Delphi has been a leader in meeting that demand," said Dave Wohleen, president, Electronics & Mobile Communication Sector, Delphi Automotive Systems. "This year, we are showing the latest Delphi innovations to bring the newest products like satellite radio, rear-seat DVD playback, voice-controlled navigation, wireless Internet access, and wireless networks to consumers."
TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHT - 802.11a
Delphi will be the first company to publicly demonstrate new uses for wireless data networks. On a specially equipped vehicle, Delphi will show how licensed video, audio files and other data are seamlessly transmitted between the vehicle and homes, offices and other future provider sources.
Specifically, in a demonstration developed with Intel Corporation, Delphi will use the IEEE 802.11a wireless networking standard to transfer video files from a home or office environment to a vehicle equipped with Delphi's rear- seat entertainment electronics.
"Delphi is aggressively researching and developing products and systems to ensure that the day when you can fill up your gas tank and download the latest DVD release for a long road trip isn't far off," said Wohleen. "At CES, we don't only want to show what's available to consumers today; we want to give them a glimpse of what connectivity and entertainment options are coming -- soon."
TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHT - MOBILE PRODUCTIVITY SYSTEMS
Delphi Aftermarket Operations, with MobileAria, the pioneer in True Hands Free(TM) productivity services, will introduce its line of sophisticated Communiport(R) Mobile Productivity Systems that allow wireless access to Internet information via MobileAria's service.
The systems will give drivers hands-free voice access to a laptop, Bluetooth(TM) mobile phone and MobileAria's array of information services.
The systems are currently being used in the San Francisco Bay Area and are expected to be available in the retail market later this year.
TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHT - SATELLITE DIGITAL AUDIO RECEIVER SERVICE
With the launch of satellite radio, Delphi is showing the first production satellite receiver technology.
Delphi's Satellite Digital Audio Receivers will be shown on several original equipment applications in Delphi's exhibit. Delphi was the first to attain OEM manufacturing contracts to provide receivers for both competing satellite signals. Satellite radio provides coast-to-coast broadcast of more than 100 stations of digital-quality music, news and entertainment for a monthly fee. With satellite radio, subscribers can listen to their favorite programs without the station fading to static as they travel.
The company is expected to make several business announcements regarding contracts to provide satellite radio receivers for various OEM customers.
TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHT - INTEGRATED NAVIGATION RADIO
Delphi's Integrated Navigation Radio (INR) that was first introduced on Cadillac's all new CTS, will be featured on several vehicles at the Delphi stand.
As the market for on-board navigation grows, Delphi is pursuing the development of technologies that meet demand for voice-controlled route guidance. Delphi's demonstration will show how its systems can be configured to meet various customer specifications. Delphi will also show retail versions of the INR.

Ok, thanks. I didn't realize the difference when I was trying to look it up.
Klaus,
Saw your posts on the Avalanche site. I realize that you are in the process of verifying and I'll wait until you do. I do have a question about the Onstar XM antenna. Will it work with the new TNR HU and do we still have to purchase the GPS antenna? If it does work, what is the P# for it?:
So if I followed along, this would be the requisite P#'s if I wanted to do TNR and XM:
10377531
Power Radio Antenna Module
2004-2005 nav unit
12498768
Add on XM player for 2003-2004 trucks
10390370
DISC-NAVN DATA
15135178
Power Radio Antenna Module (GPS Antenna)
Also, are you aware of any GM multidisc CD players that are mp3 compatible that will work with this setup?
Klaus

Bevo,
Those part numbers look good. HOWEVER - I have not done the TNR yet. No guarantees!
You still need to buy the GPS antenna for the NAV.
I can't recommend the 2005 antenna for XM. The wiring/connectors are completely different between the 2003 and 2005 H2s. Besides, the XM kit comes with an XM antenna. If your 2003 has a sunroof, you might want to use an aftermarket magnetic/stick-on XM antenna. They are not very expensive. The other option would be to buy and install the 2005 AM/FM antenna, and mount the antenna from the XM kit where the 2003 factory AM/FM antenna is located on the roof.
I'm not aware of any GM MP3 player, but they might exist.

Thanks - that is awesome.
By the way, I know you've mentioned it, but where did you put your OnStar with the CD changer in its place?
Also - one final challenge for you:
Get an iPod to work with this setup...even better if you can get it to somehow display the track name on the Nav (perhaps through a CD-changer interface or otherwise)...
You da man...
Klaus
11-18-2004, 12:35 AM
Hummer17,
I junked the OnStar. However, the easiest thing to do is to mount a different "magazine" type changer (like the one I posted the link to earier in this thread) somewhere in the truck (it comes with a 16ft cable). Then you would not have to do anything with your OnStar at all.
I have thought about a "Digital Music" connection. I wouldn't buy a specialized adapter to work with an iPod, or any other player. I don't want to get locked into a certain brand. Instead, I'd buy this adapter that gives you a standard RCA input:
SVG-707 General Motors Class-II Auxilary Input Adapter (http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=617)
I don't own, nor have I tested this adapter, but it is the one I would buy.
BTW - The same company that sells the AUX adapter also sells the magazine changer:

If you have the Radio with Six-Disc CD, here's how to tell whether you have the Y91 LUX Amp, or the Non-Y91 Non-LUX Amp.
Press the AUTO EQ (Automatic Equalization) button.
If your choices include NORMAL, DRIVER, REAR, and SPACIOUS, you have the Y91, LUX Amp.
If your choices include CUSTOM or TALK, you have the Non-Y91, Non-LUX Amp.
Here are the TNR part numbers:
Y91 LUX - Part Number: 10377531
Non-Y91, Non-LUX - Part Number: 10377287
You must select the proper TNR for the Amp installed in your truck, or you will not get any audio. So far, all 2003s have the Y91, LUX Amp, 2004s may have either Amp (switchover during the model year), and 2005s have the Non-Y91, Non-LUX Amp. The Y91 LUX Amp communicates via the GM Class 2 Databus, while the Non-Y91, Non-LUX Amp does not. The LUX Amp has DSP.

Klaus
11-20-2004, 12:59 AM
Correct. No 2003s came with Navigation, 2004s came with the INR (joystick) Navigation, and the 2005s come with the TNRs.
You should really insist on knowing the part number of the NAV unit in question.
It appears that Cadillac Escalades all have the LUX Amp. HOWEVER - Verify the part number before buying!

The NAV unit cannot be bought at the dealer. You can only get them from ACDelco distributors. Two of them are:

I bought mine from the second link (Model). Beware that these places are not keen on selling to individuals, so their prices are all over the map when you call.

I was able to order the TNR from Model without to many problems. It is on back order now, but should be in to them in the next day or two.
They said the did not carry the XM module or the disc. I called Specmo and they say only dealers can get those items. I will be at the Hummer dealer near me tomorrow and will talk to them about getting the XM module and disc. Any other thoughts? Thanks, Wendell

Klaus, When you installed TNR did you happen to take any pics of the VSS and the pin out/in on instrument cluster or do you have the info for that if you hooked it up and did the wire come with it ?
Klaus
11-23-2004, 06:56 PM
H2ummer,
It is really amazing to watch those ACDelco distributors. The last person that tried to buy one from them had no luck with Model, but had success with Specmo. Go figure...
The XM Radio Kit, GPS Antenna, and the NAV DVD are GM parts and can be ordered from the dealer, GMPartsDirect.com, or even through "partsguy" here on the site (he works at a dealership). Here are the part numbers:
12498768 - XM Radio Kit
10390370 - NAV DVD Disc
15135178 - NAV GPS Antenna
Be aware that GMPartsDirect.com's shipping is expensive, and their return policy is bad (special order items cannot be returned). See if "partsguy" here can give you a better price. He's helped me out in the past.
H2Chuck,
Sorry, I didn't take pictures when I connected the VSS, as I did it when I installed the CD Changer. I'll try to get you more info on that, however. If you are not doing the Changer, I'd still order the Changer Cable, GM part number 15312903. Two of the wires are not used on this cable when adding a Changer to the H2, so they can be cut off. The wire with the connector can then be added to the radio connector for the VSS.

I think you used the GPS antenna from your Onstar System. Is the 15135178 model, from the 2005 Hummer and just the GPS antenna and not part of Onstar?
Also, once you install the TNR, do you have to have the dealer program your VIN into it?
Wendell
Klaus
11-24-2004, 01:36 AM
Wendell,
From the factory, the NAV system has its own GPS antenna, mounted in the dash. From the factory, the OnStar GPS and the NAV GPS are separate units.
Remember, I was one of the first to do this setup. If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably just add a magazine type changer and mount it in the console or under the seat, saving the OnStar. It would have been a lot easier!
About the Theftlock... When a new radio is installed, the first time it is powered up, it "learns" the VIN of the vehicle. After that, each time it is powered up, it compares VIN of the current vehicle with the "learned" VIN number. If they don't match, the unit displays "Theftlock Activated" and will not power up. Therefore, if you buy a new unit, just plug it in and you are good to go. However, if you buy a used unit, you will have to get a dealer connect his Tech2 tool to command the radio to "relearn" the VIN from the current vehicle.

On line 12 of the Factory XM installation document it refers to unplugging the power & ground wires from the 12-pin connector & attaching directly to the posts? Is this a correct interpration because in the following instructions, we are instructed to attach these wires directly into the 4-pin harness connector. Can you clarify how/where the power wires go?

What you are doing is removing the wires/pins from the connector, and replacing them with wires/pins from the harness that comes with the XM Kit.
The pins have a release catch that will allow you to pull the pin/wire out of the connector when depressed. I used a small jeweler's screwdriver. Take a look at the pins on the XM harness to get an idea how it works.
The wires/pins that you removed from the factory connector will be reinstalled in the 4-pin connector supplied in the kit in step 14.

Hi,
Just recently joined the forum after reviewing the discussion topics for some months. Great info!!!
I have some questions on upgrading my factory in dash Radio with six disc CD to the 05 TNR, specifically Part 10377287 for an 04 H2, with Y91 Bose NON LUX Amp. I have searched through the 05 Touch Screen Nav discussion and cannot find these questions asked or answered in the past. I would appreciate if anyone who has performed the upgrade could answer the following questions:
1. Is the volume level of the vehicle's chimes still controlled by the 05 TNR as it currently is with the six disc CD Radio?
2. Are the Radio station presets still retained in memory (Vehicle Personalization) for each driver (Driver 1 & 2) when upgrading to the 05 TNR?
3. When setting preset stations with the 05 TNR, (as with the factory six CD whenever you press a numbered pushbutton, the station you set will return and the equalization that you selected will be automatically stored for that pushbutton and for that driver) will the same be true and the equalization be retained for each driver's selection?.
Thanks,

I have the touch screen Nav w/ XM, while I love the setup, I would like to make a couple of modifications to the user interface. First, when the radio is in nav mode, and you change the XM station it gives a popup window w/ station info. Is there anyway to get it to also give title and artist info? Is it possible to get the radio to give a popup w/ title and artist info everytime a new song comes on? Basically I'd like to glance over and see this instead of having to press the XM soft button everytime a new song comes on, or leaving it in XM display mode (the bright blue is distracting at night). any help is appreciated.

I couldn't download the rest of this thread on your installing the 05 TNR. I want to install the same with XM radio, although I prefer Sirius, and add a connection for my ipod. I can do without the 6-disc changer as the ipod has all my cds on it.
