View Full Version : Offroad or Marker Lights?

Should I get the OEM Offroad lights or the marker lights (you know the OEM "bar" that goes just above the windshield). I'm still a little sketched about drilling holes in my roof. I wonder if I get offroad lights and I end up not liking them, if the holes for the marker lights would match up? I'll go with which ever gets the most votes. :grouphug:

What do you think?

Marker lights, just be prepared for a little more wind noise ..... so you might as well get a roof rack while you're at it!

Marker lights, i know some people will tell you more wind noise, but there isnt, i didnt notice any difference so far i had mine 3 months no marker lights then i got em installed and ive had it three months since then and didnt notice any difference. Another reason id get the marker lights is cause look at the H1 and the H2 they both have it, they belong on it, it completes the "Hummer" look. I would do that and then get the PIAA lights on the grill!

Be different and get the off road lights. Everyone has the marker lights and I really like the off road lights. Especially the oem twin rectangular lights.

The Off Road lights are cool... But the Amber Marker lights look cooler to me. Plus, there on at night and it makes the 3 more noticable. It breaks up the roof line nicely.

There is no wind noise with the new factory fix. I had mine installed at the dealer and he used the new sealing kit which runs about $15.00. No Noise...and I've had my 3 up to 80 MPH.

Also the amber lens color contrast's the body color nicely especially your color ..

Marker (I have them) then put off road ones on your rack or brush guard

Go with the marker lights. Mine make zero noise and look awesome! It really completes the H3, if you already have the brush guard...

The answer is what you want. Markers are for to be seen by others. Offroads are to see. On my rig they see me with factory lights. I put lower twin mini's on the bottom with a extra set of big beams on my aux bumper rach. I have a set of twin 55 watt mini on the roof with sep switch 3 sets of switches total for looking out...:beerchug: So look out in the woods here we come!!!

Hi Bonzaii!

How's your offroad / marker lights combo coming along? Did you manage to figure out the electrical tap off from the front yet? :excited:

Looks like a bunch of votes for the markers, and a couple for the offroad lights. I put the GM grill offroad lights in tonight, will finish the wiring tomorrow after work. I am also putting the JKS disconnects in and swaping out my front fox shocks for the congitos this weekend. I am leaning towards the markers and going with the gobi lowpro. Then I can mount some offroad lights, high lift, and what-not on the gobi. I thought I would decide by the time I get back from wheeling on Sunday. Lot's of good thoughts here though. Has really go me thinking.

I asked my girlfriend and she said I am crazy to drill holes in my roof, she says "why don't you have Bam and Billy Idol just cut the damn roof off." So, I grabbed a beer and headed back out to the garage. :OWNED:

gotta say marker lights and I like the idea of getting a rack and putting off-road lights there.
BTW your ride looks real clean with the painted grill and mud-terrains, should make for a real nice rig once all is said and done

Nope, haven't even had a chance to look at the wiring. I'm still waiting for my 2 additional outside marker lights to arrive, then I'll tackle the last of the wiring, If I can't easily fing the hitch wires leaving the fuse box I'm just going to tap into the rear marker lights.

Glad you got the offroad lights... I've got them too and come in handy. Markers are for F150s and 18 wheelers.

Marker lights are bling. You can't see with them. If you get some be sure and also get curb feelers with purple lights on the end. Street Queen equipment. Just kidding get what you want to show your style.
Now if you explore at night or go on long trails and get delayed winching Jeeps or something you will like the roof lights. I think it is a classic Hummer thing as well for the offroad crowd.
Markers are ok on trucks, pickups that tow oversize loads in fact are required on some. Just like air scoops if ya gotum use um.

If you want lights to see and run in the woods the ones sticking up above a roof rack better laydown but that makes it hard to use them. I guess that is for the wide open desert.

swaping out my front fox shocks for the congitos this weekend.

What fox shocks did you have? Were they the rod hall shocks? What was wrong with them? Not enough travel?

I'm so confused. Marker lights, and rack with real offroad lights are the way to go, I guess. But, I kinda like the GM offroad lights.. :crying:

I think I'll get the offroad lights first and then swap them out when I get the gobi. It looks like the holes are the same!

I have the Rod Hall Fox shocks on all 4 corners... put them on a few weeks ago. I am putting Sway A Way torsion bars on this weekend, and cranking up the front end. Got the Samco shackles for the rear. Should I look for a place that has aligned H3's before, or will any old place do?

If the Fox shocks are too short, I'll go with the Cognitos (somebody got me a couple of them for being so cool). If the Fox shocks end up being long enough, I'll keep them. I've been thinking about going in a whole new direction with the front shocks, anyway. Either way, I'll have some shocks for sale pretty soon.
