Check out other threads Seems to be an intermediate steering shaft problem
it is heat related apparently alot of 07's are affected by thisbject: Clunk Or Knock Noise Heard And Felt Through The Steering Wheel Or Brake And Accelerator Pedals - keywords intermediate rattle shaft #PIT4448 - (06/27/2007)
Models: 2007 Hummer H3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
A clunk or knock noise is heard and felt through the steering wheel or brake and accelerator pedals, the cause is a slip/stick condition in the lower steering shaft. This is a temperature sensitive issue and usually requires the vehicle to have been driven for a period of time to increase under hood temperatures

Recommendation/Instructions:
Replace the lower steering shaft part no. 25776339. There is a high probability that replacing the shaft will correct the condition as there are only a small percentage of parts that exhibit this condition. This PI will be updated when a new part number becomes available.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

Mine has this problem to just bought three weeks ago Seems to be widespread:rant:

Had my H3 in the shop for the steering column noise/movement (among other things) a few weeks ago. They couldn't duplicate the problem. Go figure.

They did say they tightened the body mounts....and thought that might fix it. It didn't - so if they tell you that's what their fix is.....it won't work.

I'm not sure how they couldn't duplicate it cause it pretty dam obvious to me.

Glad I am not the only one atleast I can tell the dealer what it may be. I hate having a problem and having service tech drive it and tell me that they don't hear or feel anything. It does seem to be tempurture sensitive because it was over 104 degrees here Friday and I thought the front end was going to fall out the truck and was afraid to drive it over the weekend but got in it this morning and had no problems till I got in to town and then it started a little bit

I have 8,000 miles on it and the only problems so far ae:

1.this knocking, bumping feel
2.driver door clicking weird dealer said they would have to put new hinge actuator
3.map pocket torn from stitching I have never used it but I guess maybe folding rear seat down tore it?

Thanks!!

I am having the same problem and have been told it is the steering shaft also. Went to the dealer two weeks ago and mentioned that's what I thought it was. They said no way. They came back an hour later and said it was the steering shaft. :/ They need to order the part and I haven't heard back from them yet. I will call them Monday and see what's up. But it is warrenty, so no charge to fix it... other then the hour it takes me to get to the closest dealer. I loose a half day just for a stinkin oil change.

I think I may have the same issue. When I brake a and turn or accelerate and turn I hear a sort of clicking sound. It almost sounds as if something is real tight and aabout to snap.

Is this what everyone else is experiencing?

I emailed my sales person and forwarded the link to the forum she admitted it was a huge problem and said they have the new columns and installed several just last week. She wants me to call her monday morning so she can make sure they have one with my name on it so they can put it on the same day so I won't have to make two trips:jump:

That's not really what mine does. Mine is whenever you hit any little bump, there is a knocking feeling through the pedals and steering wheel. It's like something is loose and rattling around.

that is what mine is doing I will let you know if the column fixes it but the dealer said it would it was an easy fix and they have done several. The steering column is VIN specific I guess they know which ones have the faulty ones

I'm having the same problem and I only have 1100 miles on mine. Called the dealer and before I could finish explaining what the problem was they new what the issue was. They've ordered in the new part for me and I should be getting it replaced later this week. I will update everyone afterwards

here is the email my dealer sent back to me:

Yes, I know exactly what problem you are talking about?.good news is?it is not a safety issue. When they modified the steering shaft for the 2007 Hummer H3 (because they increased the distance between the brake pedal and the gas pedal) it bumps the bottom of the Hummer.

Great news is?.we received the new steering shafts and we are installing them as fast as we can.

Four Hummers were fixed on Friday and we are making appointments left and right for the ones that need to be fixed

So this "fix" is directed at the 2007 H3 only then??

Mine's an '06....and is doing the same thing.

maybe some of the late 06's got the same shaft???

Guess I'll talk to the dealership and tell them what I've found out here and see what they have to say. It's under warranty - so it's their problem to find out what's wrong. At least I'll be able to point them in a direction since they couldn't reproduce the sound/feeling the last time the truck was in for service.

If you get any other info please post it! Thanks!

Yeah, I noticed mine early on. I knew there was definitely a problem somewhere in the front end. The problem will arise after long drives or increased outside temperatures (you will feel it faster if the outside temperature is pretty hot). I now have 12K miles on the car and are still waiting for GM to get the new shafts to my dealer. I think I will call them tomorrow because it is driving me nuts...especially with the 100 Degree houston weather. The service guy said that he saw the problem more on the adventure models rather than the basic models. Before, he told me that they were just replacing the shafts with the same design and not the redesigned one. Have the redesigned shaft models been released yet from GM?

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND. IT TOOK THEM 2 WEEKS TO FIGURE THE PROBLEM OUT. I ALSO WOULD LIKE TO THINK I HELPED OUT A LITTLE. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 03 DURAMAX. I GOT MY NEW SHAFT IN THE MIDDLE OF JULY. FIXED PROBLEM RIGHT UP. ON MINE THE BUSHING AT THE COLAPSE POINT ON THE STEERING SHAFT WAS CRUSHED. THEY SAID THAT WAS LETTING THE SHAFT FLEX IN AND OUT. IT TOOK ABOUT 45 MINUTES TO FIX. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP FIXED MINE THEY HAD 6 OR 7 MORE RIGHT AFTER MINE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. GOOD LUCK HOPE EVERYBODY GETS THE NEW SHAFT.

Called McGinnis Hummer and they said they were familiar with the problem and would just go ahead and order my part. Two days later it came in and they said that it's about a 25 minute fix. Took it over at lunch time and was given a loaner. Was done by the time I got off work. :clapping:

I just got off the phone with my dealer...He is ordering me the part and hopefully it will be in by next Tuesday so I can get it in. He knew exactly what I was talking about and said it was the intermediate shaft.

Hey Chi, yes, I had mine in on Saturday and they replaced the lower (I think) steering shaft. I have not noticed the problem so far. All warrenty work. Although I have a gauge cluster issue and I got the standard dealer reply: Cannot reproduce the problem. That's annoying.

Is this all 2007. Or, is it a pre-change over thing like the window/lock control move. I have late model 2007 with 3000 miles. No problems so far.

Mine has a production date of 1/07 and it has the problem. Window controls are old version
