Any suggestions for an aftermarket Lock Box that can be secured in the H3? Sometimes I need to leave my .45 in the truck.

You could put a narrow one in the jack compartment and bolt it to the jack suport somehow.(someone here moved the jack over to fit a compressor.)You can get a lot of stuff in there.http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon10.gif

Also may fit one in the lower console and bolt it to the bracket or through the floor.( a little more handy when you need it)

Any Ideas were to mount a rifle ?

Ironic - I was just looking at these myself today. The most recent Sportsman's Guide has one for sale for approximately $80. It has a lock with a keypad code and manual key over-ride. There are also several other models. Keyword: safe

Never leave a pistol in a vehicle.

If the car is taken, there goes your pistol, and probably will end up sold to someone else. Then you are the reason that it is on the street illegally.

I dissagree.
There is more of a chance you will need it in self-defense than getting the truck stolen, especially if you keep it in a garage at night.

This one has predrilled holes in the bottom for bolting it down -- as well as a cable lock.

The question is where would be a good place in the H3.

Tex, I'm new to the forum but have been reading it for a month or so. I'm just as interested in the .45 box also. I think the key to leaving it in the vehicle would be by locating it in a spot accessible to the driver...to raise as little suspicion as possible. While the Jack access is good...my worries would be that someone would see me opening the backdoor and placing it in there.

The base of inner console is 6 1/8 by 10 inches...I'd be real interested in bolting the box in...if removing the console and fabricating mounts isn't too expensive.

I'd suggest something like this.

Secure it to the seat frame or under the console and if the weapon is secured it's easy to get to and it's easy to secure. You don't want something where you have to disarm outside the vehicle in view of the public.

Granted, it's not theft proof, but if stashed well it's probable safe from a smash and grab. If the vehicle gets stolen (which is a lot more likely than needing a weapon for self defense) then yes, it's gone.

Then wear it.
A locked and loaded pistol, holstered on your person is for self defense. Left in your car doesn't make a very defensive posture.

Just my professional .02 worth.

CCW permit holders can't take the firearm into every place they go. Thus, the need to secure it in the vehicle....

Can't see how that product will cut it. Might as well leave it under your seat loose or in its factory container lock up...
