Hummer updated their website to include the H3 Alpha. So I was browsing through that section and downloaded some wallpapers. I put this one up

and noticed this bar mounted to the back bumper and almost touching the ground. It can't be good for departure angle. :giggling:
My first thought would be that it was for a camera mount for a particular shot, but you think that someone would catch this before they put it on their website as a wallpaper.
What are your guesses as what they were using it for?

They must have used it to take this shot

Where do I sign up to be the photographer hanging off the back bumper of an H3 taking shots of the spare tire.
Looks like you can see the camera in the reflection in the lower left corner. :OWNED:

Looks like they have the same robot paint sprayer setup guy at the factory too! (Mr. Orange Peel). Hopefully they have canned the guy that did the setup on the robot welders for the rear door skins (Mr. Hot Weld - for Rear Door factory dents). Oh well, at least it has a v8 option now. :giggling:

I think your right. We don't put anything like that from the factory. I do know the Alpha version won't be available from South Africa until 2009. We still make some left hand drive for export, but those Europian bars are probably installed at the dealer.
Here is a link to a picture of a European rear bar. This would make me believe it was for taking pictures.

no actually its called an exterior passenger carrier. I have it on mine also.
I got the idea a few years back when i saw little kids sharing one bike, and 1 kids would be standing on a bar on the back wheel.
Anyway, i use it for all my guests, especially the girlfriend. She always complains that she wanted me to get a convertable so her hair can blow in the wind. So when head to the 3, i dont bother unlocking her door, she just walks to the back of the 3 and stands on her personal "exterior passenger carrier"
Sometimes i wonder why she likes it becasue the spare tire is there, it makes for an awkward position becasue her butt is facing the cars, and i feel like shes holding on for dare life when i take it offroads.
