I was bored this weekend and decided to polish my skid plate... this is the finished product. I thing I might paint the "H2" part of it black or vise versa. Let me know what you think.

that's cool. I think that you should paint the H2. What did you use to polish it that to the level you got it?:perfect10s:

Nice, I polished mine, but looks as if yours turned out better. I also painted around the H2 instead. Kinda like the 07 H2 skid plate. Looks good though.:beerchug:

Actually It took me about a couple of hours to get it like that. I went at with with like 15 different size grit of sand paper... then I used a buffing wheel and and some solution I have at home.

I actually put ot a post on craigslist to see if I can make a lil money on the side doing this, lol.

What polish did you finish with after the sandpaper?

What polish did you finish with after the sandpaper?

It's some industrial crap I got from my pops. I'll see if there's a label on it when i get home cause I seriously forgot.

It's really all in the sanding though. I went at it with various grit sizes till it looked real clean. I even sanded down the dings it had on it. then I used a couple of different buffing wheels. between the buffing I used the eagle 1 polish called "neverdull".

I painted mine with bedliner around the H2. It's not polished. It looks pretty good even with the sh!t beaten out of the skid plate. To me, unless your rig is a mall queen, polishing your skid plate seems like shining the bottom of your shoes. But it is pretty (for now). POLISH as in from POLAND.:giggling:

I let Sagebrush polish my skids and undercarriage.

You have way too much time on your hands if you are polishing your skid plate to a mirror finish!

I think this is why Jeep owners dont think Hummer owners are serious off roaders:giggling:

Now that I think about it, we had a skidplate fabbed up by the GM guys at the desert proving grounds that had the front polished like that, not quite that well polished, but shiny nonetheless. It looked good for Tech before the race, but come race day, no more shiny:(

Yeah The skid plate doesn't look that shiny anymore, lol. I took the truck out to the river and yeah that pretty much sums it all up. I'll be going to the River again a few weeks i'll take pics to post. Thanks for the comments fellas!

You did a good job for just sitting down and figuring it out.

Search and you can take a look at mine. i think i have a pic on forum. I have 3 styles. A stealth painted with black H2, a polished with black H2, and a polished with stealth H2 outlined in black. We have a everyday plate and 2 others for shows. They rotate.

There are a few places to buy them but, a guy that polishes full time started it all in Florida. Lee's Polishing I think. It has been a while since I used him on a 200 amp altenator.

You could do a search on polishing and find him to see what his trade in price is. That way you may be able to cut your price some. We use a really big powerful polishing wheel to find the unlevel spots even on new ones that we order. They are all stamped. Then we use body work tech. and level them, then sand a little before going back to polish. As time goes by the process is refined. The shop I mentioned if I got ir right can do one in 5 tto 10 minutes. It is just the owner and one guy do all the work. He has them stacked up for sale. We gave up except for Our use or customer because he has it down where it is hard to match his price.

Good Luck give it a try. If you can find a good source for new ones it will take just a few and then you just do a swap unless they want painting on the plate. I hope You do well. I think You could do it as a hobby type thing and still make a tank of gas ever so often. that alone is worth it.

Had mine polished then added a black vinyl adhesive to fit over the H2 part..Works great, vinyl is heavy enough so it doesn't nick or tear and if you ever get tired of it, you can easily remove it..Bought it on Ebay, $26..:perfect10s:

When I installed a liftkit on my H2, you're not suppose to use the stock skidplate.

Well after a bit of cutting and welding, I manage to use the stock skidplate. The first thing I did was polish it.

It was great to see it shiny but what a PIA. Once you start, you have to keep doing it.

Looks great though.

My old outdated website shows examples of my work however I nolonger do dent repair as it it cheaper to purchase used ones in good condition.

I also have a lame video on youtube that I'm thinking I should redo soon.
It shows the polishing methods I use to complete an H2 skidplate.
