Ok, I finally got around to Line-Xing the roof cross bars. I dreaded taking these off because I cracked some plastic on the old truck.

Anyway, this was a lot easier. Start by removing the locks and then the rubber strip that goes across the top. Use a #20 Torx bit with an extension to get at the 4 mounting screws. Remove those and take the bar off. Pretty easy.

Take it to the local Line-X shop and have them do their job. When telling them how to do it, make sure you tell them NOT to Line-X the channel for the rubber strip. The bonding agent is not necessary, but I had it applied.

To reinstall, start with the rubber strip. If you've kept it in the house, warm, it will be easier to reapply. I thought it was a PITA.

There may be some product you need to trim in order to get the strip to mount all the way down. Just use a razor knife and cut it away.

Put the bars back on and tighten down with the Torx bolts making sure the sides are even.

Lubricate the lock mechanism while you have the lock off. (You might as well. They get tough to turn.) If there is product on the very ends of the rails, you will need to use the razor knife to cut it off. You only need to clean the bottom half of the end to get the lock to function properly. This only takes a few seconds.

The lock should slide on and work now.

That's it.

Piece of cake.

KenP, That looks AWESOME(even though I'm a CHROME GEEK http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif).

Line-X is a great product. I used it on my Amp Reseach Power running boards after the powdercoating started to flake.

Good Choice http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I do, but I have to open the Owner's Manual to find it and that's too much trouble. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Does anyone know where my Gonzo Inn sticker would be? http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
