Is there a trick to driving on snow? My very first off-roading event was to Big Bear in January, the stock ATs were sliding every which way in the mud/snow combination http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Must I turn on the TC2 always?
Curious how the MT/Rs do this winter.

One time, the freeway iced-over and everyone was going like 1mph, and I made the mistake of taking the slow lane. The Mercedes we were in started sliding sideways towards a ditch because of the sideslopes of the freeway! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_eek.gif
I had to jump down, literally pulled on the front driver fender from the side, while my then girlfriend (now wife http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif) scooted over behind the wheel and very s l o w l y inched forward until we changed lanes..!
H2F, too much ice in the south east.

The key to driving on snow or ice is to take it slow and leave plenty of room between the vehicle in front of you and yourself. Also dont slam on your brakes or you will slide.

The key to learning how to drive in snow and ice is to find a huge parking lot at a mall somewhere with lots of snow/ice on it. Make certain the mall is closed so there are no cars around to smash, then have it!!! You'll learn more doing that than at anytime on the road when you're worried about hitting something! It's also alot of fun!!! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

At least around here snow turns to freezing rain, and sleet. It makes for some interesting driving. One minute you are in control - the next your sideways. The trick I have learned is how to use the rps to both steer, and keep the truck in control.
one of the quickest things one should learn is how not to use your brakes...I see so many people stomp their brakes and head out into the giggle weeds. ABS helps, but also hurts in some cases. ABS ruined the controled skid - at least for me.
Also if you have ever drove a car/truck that is rear wheel drive, with MAD power, and you know what it feels like to kick out - and then regain control through counter steering and accelerator control you will be ahead of the game.

I agree with that! ABS is nice on wet pavement, when taking evasive maneuvers, etc. but I can't stand it in the snow. Its like having 1/2 the braking. I'm stomping on it for a reason and it keeps letting off. http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

I love driving and playing in the snow. I grew up in in the area of Steamboat Springs Colorado, with lots of snow to drive in.
The trick is use 4 High, and just drive nice and easy and respect the weather condition and the roads and you do just fine. Slow and easy has got me over more Mountains Passes that has been close down as I was driving over them.
Here is a picture of me playing in snow with my Hummer up in Flagstaff Arizona.
