Looks very nice -- exactly like my '05! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Go figure! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Did you put in a CD changer, too?

i placed 3 switches here as you can see the one labeled nav allows my passenger (LOL)to use all the nav options while the vehicle is in motion. The one labled dvd will turn the dvd onto the screen. and of course the cam will allow me to activate a rear camera while driving.

allthough these pics aren't the best quality the sharpness on the screen from the dvd is excellent.

its a visualogic http://www.jpcustoms.com/store/customer/product.php?pro...16390&cat=332&page=1 (http://www.jpcustoms.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=16390&cat=332&page=1)
i removed the onstar and placed the dvd player there. i did have to modify the back of the dash behind the onstar. There is a bracket that i had to cut back so the dvd player would fit nice you will also notice that it is a little bigger than a standard din opening. so i used window sealing foam tape 1/2 and just ran it around the unit. i suppose you could find a face plate but it looks good for me so i will keep it that way. when i modified the bracket in the back i took a little out at a time and checked fitment (depth) each time till i was satisfied with the look

Great job, FiremanJay. Very creative approach to mounting three switches in a small area.

I'm not up on all the latest A/V stuff so . . .

When you have a 6 disc changer, is there any need to insert DVDs in the dash-mounted unit? Is there enough room behind the shifter to insert a DVD if you wanted to?

Where did you mount the rear cam?

Well my 6 disc changer only works for cd's but you could get a dvd changer that will do the same job as an in dash unit.
You could place a dvd player in the center console, you will need to make sure that it will work mounted verically as well as horizontal. You will need to modify the inside of the center console. The NAV/DVD dash unit only reads data DVD's and i keep my NAV disc in there all the time. It will play cd's i understand but i never used it for that due to the 6 disc changer.

I havent mounted the rear cam yet. I am trying to decide on either the H2cam, or another one that will mount lower. It all depends on if i want to install a rear tire carrier. If i do the H2cam wont be as effective when hooking up a trailer, due to the tire will be blocking my view i think. So im still deciding what i want to do

Cool
I did 100% of the install myself. Got the set up from www.jpcustoms.com (http://www.jpcustoms.com) took them 3 days to get it to my front door then spent a sat while i was working at the firehouse to do the install. very simple and easy, JP customs sent detailed intructions on dash removal install the works. Prior to getting into Harleys and working at a dealership part time i did stereo installs. So it was fairly easy. Just a few basic tools and read the instructions.

$395.00 for PAC GM2 video adaptor for touch screen navigation. From reading the install instruction, it said to get relay and something else before installing. Can't believe that the kit didn't come with the necessary items to complete the install, especially costing $395.00

FiremanJay

i didnt hook up any relay to the video adapter. and it works just great. i did use a relay and pre ran the wires for the back up cam placed them behind my glove box. so when install it i wont have to take apart dash. relay was used to allow reverse to activate screen then switch to turn on while driving. the pic of the adapter doesnt show the latest unit the one you would receive has 2 video inputs.for the unit you do have to take the top off of the NAV unit and install the new ribbon wire, but it is very simple and the instructions are easy to understand.

Thanks for the follow-up.

My '05 came with the center console vertically mounted DVD unit and Visualogic head rests. I've been considering removing the existing player and replacing it with a multi-disc unit under the rear seats. I sure would like to have the storage area in the console and swapping dics while driving with the present setup isn't exactly convenient. Or safe.

I have Framecam's Hitchcam mounted on the rear spare. It'll help with backing up to a trailer but it does have its limits. The line of sight from the cam to the hitch receiver is blocked by the bottom of the tire. It'll get you close, maybe close enough with a little practice.

Rodster, Are you satisfy with the frame cam? Does it work at night?

Fireman Jay, Thank you for the info. I bought the CD changer but may wait to get the rest of the gadgets and try to do the install. Would you happen to have the install instruction that you can email me a copy? Thank you

Yes and yes.

If I had to do it again, I'd buy just the frame cam and not the monitor then pipe the video into the nav unit display.

If you have the rear tire carrier with the plastic tag holder, you'll need to cut the plastic so the camera can tilt down. If you mount the frame with the camera on top it blocks the tag light.

I love your setup. I am going to try to duplicate it except I will find a different place for DVD player. What modifications were made to the wiring allowing the passenger to input a destination while the car is in motion.

Anyone tried the universal headrest video rather than the $2000 plus version for the H2? Any thoughts on the overhead monitors?

FiremanJay
10-01-2005, 10:43 AM
the onloy splicing i had to do was at the wire harness to the speedo. i spliced a wire from the vss to a switch then to the back of the head unit. very simple operation. now my passenger can input info while the vehicle is in motion.
Because as we all know the driver shouldnt do that cause he may have an accident.........LOL

jhall you got mail.
sportsdude do you have a link to these headrests.

FiremanJay, Here's one that JP sells: http://www.jpcustoms.com/store/customer/product.php?pro...16689&cat=302&page=1 (http://www.jpcustoms.com/store/customer/product.php?productid=16689&cat=302&page=1)
I've seen some universal types but don't know if the headrest will match among other things. One question please with the GM PAC. Does it still only have one video input or is there a newer version than the one posted on their web site?

FiremanJay
10-01-2005, 04:41 PM
thanks sportsdude the new pac-audio unit that i received from jp customs has 2 video inputs i use input 1 for the dvd and input 2 will be used for the rear cam i understand that when i either put my vehicle in reverse or turn the switch on the pac-audio unit will default to line 2.
