View Full Version : H2 Won't Start, but Weird issue...

Has anyone seen anything like this before:

3 Weeks ago: I try to start my truck, after driving about an hour, and it wont start. Weird thing is, I have all power, windows, radio, lights, it all works. Then I try again in a minute, and I get NO power. Now I'm stressed b/c the sunroof and all 4 windows are down.

I wait a few minutes, try to start again = nothing, but I have power again and can close the truck up. So I jump it but it won't start, same issue, all electric but nothing (no clicking or anything) when I try to start. So I let it sit connected to my wife's car for about 10 minutes and try again: Starts right up.

I go to the local auto parts store and they lend me a tester. The charge is great and the Load is perfect. I then get a mechanic (non-dealer) who I trust implicitly and he can't find anything wrong.

Since then, it's bee running fine. Until yesterday. Same issue, I was driving it earlier in the day and then later on, I can't start it. Each time I try, there's full electric, no clicking like its a starter/alternator. I try to jump but same issue - all power, no starty.

So, I'm left with getting it towed to the dealer tomorrow and let them check it out.

Sorry for the long winded post...

Thanks in advance for any help, advice, ideas!!!

Similiar thing happened to me a couple months ago. Thought mine ended up being a bad install on my head unit/amp/subwoofers. The guy who did it had left something unplugged in the fuse box and it had just taken a couple months to work itself loose and cause trouble.

Do you have a heavy set of keys?

Before I got a disconnect keychain for my heavy set of keys, it use to hang and jolt around causing undue wear on the ignition component.

That's what lead to a similar problem you're experiencing. They replaced my ignition switch thingy and it was fine. I now disconnect my 5lbs of keys from the H2 key and throw em in the cup holder when I drive it.

Did you get any of that?:jump:

Thanks for the responses fellas.

It turned out to be the starter. I had it replaced today and its good to go. Got to drive an H3 around for a rental why they fixed my truck.

Not bad...

Thanks again!

Culprit is likely the starter solenoid. You can hit the starter GENTLY with a hammer in an emergency to get it to work a few more times before it is dead forever.

I hope it was your starter and not a tempermental ignition switch. Same thing happened to me and the last time my keys wouldnt extract from the ignition. Dealer said, "very common H2 problem" , ignitoin switch needed to be replaced.
