Its funny you say that. We were having a discussion yesterday about why here in America, the media and corporate America is consistent on referring to the Christmas tree as the holiday tree. WHY???????????? As a Christian, I feel like if we as a nation are going to down-play one religion, we should be equal across the board. The person who circulated that makes no claims on its authenticity. However, it very well could be true. Just because I support their cause doesn't mean the person in charge is perfect or someone I'd personally support. For instance, I like Marilyn Manson's music but don't like him as a person nor do I support his atheist ideals (no offense to atheists on the list). SPL does open eyes to things that are going on that are bad. Personally, I love all people and can't stand prejudice and racism. I'm not judging anyone and I'm not angry you sent me the link. You can say what you want to me. I do not hold a grudge. I may get snippy like a bitch but I have no reason to not like anyone but violent criminals.
As far as your argument, When you add failed lie detectors to truth serum to DNA to witnesses to circumstantial evidence to physical evidence, you have a stronger case than dn, witnesses, circumstantial, and physical.

The fact is The Lie Detector and Truth Serum is as good a way to prove innocence as it is guilt. The guilty don't trust it. I took one in my life for a break in at a country club and I was let go. If I passed the lie detector I would want it admitted.

The more avenues you take to prove something the less chance you have at being wrong. Once you have the physical evidence and the circumstancial evidence and witnesses, the lie detector and truth serum just wraps it up in a bow. Without it, they are still going to jail.

I would not be for basing a case on a lie detector but once the guy is on death row, I think Lie Detectors (Along with DNA and other avenues) could help us speed up the process amd get the bastard off the books asap.

The more avenues you take to prove something the less chance you have at being wrong. This part I do agree with. The more evidence, the better. I just don't consider those avenues reliable and solid evidence.

I'm a criminal justice major and I have one degree already. That doesn't make me an authority of any kind. It does make me have the tendacy to debate it more. ;) Debate is a good thing though. Sometimes I can change my mind and see it from someone elses viewpoint. Crime fascinates me (I don't mean that in a weird way). Mostly the part about why people do what they do and what we all have in us to be able to do the same given the right situation. Anyway, I'm rambling. I'm a criminal justice major and I have one degree already. That doesn't make me an authority of any kind. It does make me have the tendacy to debate it more. ;) Debate is a good thing though. Sometimes I can change my mind and see it from someone elses viewpoint. Crime fascinates me (I don't mean that in a weird way). Mostly the part about why people do what they do and what we all have in us to be able to do the same given the right situation. Anyway, I'm rambling. (here in the Panama City Branch Campus) I'm a die hard anti-death penalty person and have been all my life, that's never changed. Anyway, I want to be a criminal intelligence analyst. I already do some things on the side towards that goal. :)

It's a mistake that could happen to any of us or our kids. I believe the system needs an entity to watch it or police it rather than police itself. Again, I hope this makes sense.

Kirk Bloodsworth. I was taking a biology class and we were studying the structure of DNA. In one of the labs we were required to extract DNA samples and analyze them. I'm no science geek, but once we got down to it I found it really interesting. KB was in town for a lecture at Seattle U Law that same night. I saw the advertisement on a sandwich board outside the law building and decided to go. The dude told the story of how everything went down "cradle to grave." In his story he mentioned that he was a marine. As always the book sale and signing followed so I bought a copy and shot the breeze with him for quite a long while. That dude went through hell in prison -- for 10 years.

Long story short, I realized what happened to him could happen to anyone. In the wrong place at the right time...the same way people earn medals in the military. Till they can get it right 100% of the time -- we need to think about the error of putting innocent people to death.

Now if anything ever happened to my wife or any of my kids, that'd probably be a different story -- I might find myself face to face with the death penalty for vigilante justice. Like I said before, I’m glad you and many others take the stance you do.

Oh and Florida state is a great school! Good luck with your degree -- nothing worth having ever comes easy!

It makes perfect sense. I might not believe in the death penalty but yes, if it were my family perhaps I might change my mind. It's easy for me to take that stance when I'm not a victim, of course. We treat criminals horrendously and I find it reprehensible. Just because someone kills an entire family of four, doesn't mean there's no good in the convict and that he's not a wholesome person inside. We have a civic duty to find the good, find the sweetness in everyone.

We, as a caring and responsible society, should educate the criminals by doing away with the current penal system and it's institutions and replace them with education centers geared toward rehabilitation.

In doing this, the convicted criminals would not have to live a life behind bars, but would be made into productive members of society, living, shopping, and working in our neighborhoods, baby sitting our children and walking our pets.

Yes, that's what I want. Convicted serial rapists helping my wife with her groceries. Convicted pedophiles working working the ice cream truck. Convicted murderers working at toy stores. Convicted thieves working for me running a cash register.

But at least pick a side and stick to it. Don't talk about how you're a die hard anti death penalty person, and then talk about how you'd have to re-think your stance if something happened to someone you cared about. Second, I do not think I have the right to take a human life. I think that the court system has the right to hand down that type of punishment in certain instances. In my opinion, there are crimes so horrible, that someone does not deserve to live out their days in prison watching cable and getting 3 meals a day provided to them. Prison time is no longer a deterrent to crime. Some people seem to do everything in their power to keep going back. (Don't even give me some sort of "product of their environment" crap). In a word without the death penalty, what's to keep people from shooting at Cops/Firemen/EMS while on duty? A BS life sentence where they'll be out in 20-30 years??? Or life without parole??? Some of them have been in jail so many times that it wouldn't even phase them.
