View Full Version : Drove a Hummer for the first time in my life last night!

I have never driven an SUV or a truck at all...whatsoever. Last night was the first time I ever have. I drove an H2. I have really started liking them within the last month...ALOT, and figured i'd give one a shot.
(I am not used to driving something this slow. I have an '03 Mitsubishi Evo with a few parts, so this is a big change.)
I loved the drive, & loved everything about the truck. I am not the off roading type of guy, but that might change.. while test driving it, i went over some boulevards and curbs just to test it out. Pretty sweet stuff. I really am just going to use it for daily driving to & from work, which is less than 2 miles. The only concern I have is the gas mileage. I know, I know... 'dont worry about the gas mileage, since im considering the H2.' I will in no way consider the baby h3 so dont even mention it...! If im doing it, im doing it big. I averaged 12.4 mpg test driving the h2 for about 45 minutes. I thought it was decent. In town was around 9-12... and highway was 13/14.
Ok, performance wise, ive read about intake/header/exhaust/tune. Of course im not expecting huge gains at all, but what about mpg increase? 1.5mpg from what ive read seems to be about the norm... but im looking to maybe increase performance enough to get upwards of 13-15 city, or am I asking for too much?
Oh well, hopefully I will enjoy my stay! What other H2 forums are there? Im on another one, but this site seems more active. :)

From everything ive read on the site you really cant do much about the gas mileage. I have a buddy who has some sort of tuner and he swears he gets 15mpg but i dont believe it.
PS, you cant talk about other forums or the mods will make you wear this:

gas mileage will never be too incredible i doubt youll get it to 15 i drive an h3 and i only get 16 max i average 15. Unless your drive is highway you may get a little more but 2 miles is too little for a big difference in city vs highway. As for not considering the H3 its not at all a baby compared to it its quite a bit smaller in size but if you go drive the h3 Alpha you might be impressed by that. Just dropping it outta the question completly isnt a smart idea you should drive the H3 Alpha just to know how it is maybe youll like it better than the H2

With a tune dont expect to pick up more than around 1mpg, remember these trucks are very heavy and wont respond to mods like your car (or any light car for that fact). I drive mine quite easy and since the weather got cold Im bouncing between 11.7-11.8, best I have gotten with mixed city/highway is 12.4, have not road tripped it yet without a trailer (2000lb trailer with my 2 jet ski's) and I got 12.2 over about 1000 miles. I would say 13-13.5 straight highway MPG is possible if you keep it 70mph or less.

Cracker,
You won't be disapointed, it's a totlaty different driving experience. I went from a heavily modified 03' BMW 330 to my current 06' H2 and have never looked back. I have noticed that the money I used to spend on frequent tires for street/track now goes into suspention modification and trail equipment. As for fuel...it uses alot, no amount of tuning will help much.
Ditch the Evo and get the Hummer, you will be happy.:beerchug:

Cracker,
You will be happy. My two previous cars before my H2 were Evos. I had the VIII and IX. Both great cars, super fast, but I got bored of it eventually after modding it. Even though the H2 cost about double the price of an evo, for some reason I am saving tons more on it since I do less modding. In any case, to this day, I still have yet to regret my decision.

Thats how I am looking at it. I pay $373 a month on the evo, $140 insurance, and ive spent right at $4980 in mods and only owned it 5 months. :raar:
I figure... used H2... $450 car payment and thats it, rather than $1500 a month on the evo.
Any reliability issues with the H2s I should look out for?

I dont feel there are any reliability issues with the H2, sure little things crop up, but for the most part they are great vehicles...i am on my 2nd one as is my dad.

:perfect10s: We drove our first Hummer H2 last week. And I'm proud to say that
we are the new owners of a H2 Lux model in Yellow.
It has already been on it's first road tip and did well.
If you really want one I would say get it cause we
really love ours.
