Morning all....we're stuck today with a dreary rainy day here in the 'burgh. My chicks are still snoozing in bed, up doing some paperwork. Might go out shopping today for xmas. But then again, might not.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Well the snow is melting, had about 6 inches on the ground from the other day. Supposed to get into the 40's today. Send me up some sun and warm weather!

Picked up 36 hours of OT from 0800 this morning till 2000 Monday night for bad weather coverage. Will hopefully watch the Chiefs lose to the Broncos....if they do I'll win my bets with co-workers since they'll finish worse than .500 on the year. It's cold as hell here with sleet covered streets.

Went to Bill Burke's 20th Anniversary yesterday. Man, that guy knows his sh!t. It was a benefit for Escondido (no kill) Animal Shelter. The raffle was great. The Burkes are matching whatever it brings in with their own check. Picked up a few items at auction and bought a few more from EE. Great shop, BTW. They only work on Land Rovers, but they have virtually everything off-road in stock! And they're very knowledgeable about what they sell. They even carry shot gun shells and Knipex tools! You can't even find local hardware stores that carry many of these!

80F here as well. And it's one of those totally non-productive days....the weather is in that nasty pattern that as soon as you get stuff set up outside to do something, it pours. For like 20 mins, then stops. Arrgh.

Turned off the TV at 2:30, just couldn't stomach the Cowboys anymore. They came back but it wasn't pretty.

Hubby is at work so I was hoping to finish up the Christmas lights outside, but it's a no-go with this rain. I have 3 strands left out of about 70 we put up. Looks pretty cool at night...not so pretty in the daytime with the numerous extension cords all over the place, but that's ok. We actually managed to get power to our front gate wreath (the thing is about 4' across), it's about 250' from the house. Now if I can only get the freakin dog to stop peeing on it. :(

LOL...I normally dont like salmon though so I wonder if I wouldnt like the lox? But I am assuming that since its salt cured and smoked it likely tastes alot different than salmon that is prepared otherwise.

You guys are so right...it's nasty, slimey, smelly, and salty.

Actually we smoke about a hundred pounds of "Copper River" reds and kings, each year. We brine them in salt and brown sugar. It pulls out the moisture and sweetens the fish. Then it gets dried for 8 hours and finally cold smoked with apple wood.

Most people grill them on a cedar plank, if you ever feel "brave" buy a salmon fillet (not that Atlantic crap) and give it a thin coat of extra virgin olive oil, shake lemon pepper over it and grill it right away. About 6 minutes per side. It's as good as any steak. Well maybe not moose....

I'm telling you, people eat this fish raw, matter of fact I've witnessed Asian tourists, catch one and pluck the eyes right out and scarf them down on the river banks! Sounds nasty, but it's supposedly better than sushi.

I can't fricken believe you guys never had Salmon. But then again "Yall ar ein the midwest, right?

holy hell thats one big ass fish!

I stuck that birch branch in its mouth so I could throw it over my shoulder for the picture, you know, to get its tail up off the ground.

When I lifted it...well...my son starts laughing and says

"Man dad that's sad, that fish spent the last 4 years swimming around in the ocean fending for itself, swimming back to this very spot, only to spawn all over your leg!"
