Just curious but how many of you have had your shins knocked hard when you released the parking brakes from the tense spring ? It just happened to me and I think its going to leave a mark.

We had a hard-nosed coach teaching driver's ed and he always made us cover the parking brake pedal with our foot, and apply slight pressure while pulling the release.
That way it doesn't snap back so it's better for your shin and the mechanism.
Also it goes without saying you should shift into gear *before* pulling the release to take stress off the transmission pawl.

I have to agree with you here since we park on a down hill
area that has a large ditch after the parking spot and we use
our parking brake all the time. When we also had our Avalanche
it had the same parking brake and I said the same thing about it
taking a piece of your leg off if you were to get too close.
Why they did not use hand brakes is beyond me.

It's funny that you mention the H2 has that type of parking brake (I didn't notice it in my test drive), I assumed it had the same 'soft release' type that my Silverado had in 2000. I guess the general has to cut a few corners now and then :shhh:
