Everyone,

Just bought a used H2....LOVE IT!.....and it's got a ton of "steering slop", especially at highway speeds. I've owned a lot of GM vehicles previously, and am slightly used to play in the steering, but NOTHING like this?

Anyone experience this same problem, know what causes it, or have a fix?

Thanks in advance,

DUCK

Check your hub bearings and inner tie rods. If it has aftermarket wheels, the hub bearings tend to go out the window.

I agree that the bearings go bad rather frequently but unless they're obnoxious, I'd vote for a idler arm. I just replaced mine last week. It really tightened up the steering.

Put the truck up on the lift and see if the tires move back and forth. You should be able to see what is (or isn't) moving along with the tires.

I've seen quite a few bearings go bad on these trucks but never bad enough to have obnoxious amounts of "play" in the steering wheel. It was more like something was loose.

I did my idler and pitman and also put in a cognito kit with it. did that at 42,000 miles.....I now have 96,000 - idler and pitman are great....just change all tierod ends and wheel bearings. Drives like new again

I run 20"s with 37's -

What's a cognito kit? I'm going to go through my entire front end and want to replace anything I can with an upgrade.

Thanks,
