It doesnt come in chrome since its a standard equipment for most 2005. The rear bumper is different so you would have to change that too and you MUST use the factory license holder with it. Im positive it will hold a 18" without a doubt.

V10,

This is just to give you an idea of a chrome tire carrier, I have had some chrome stuff from this guy and they are fine, but I must pass on the chrome tire carrier http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif It was a bit much IMHO. This is an SMA, but you get the idea, he also has the factory one if you're really interested.

I have the predator chrome carrier.

http://www.predatormotorsports.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=257

It looks good from a distance. There are less visible places where it rusts, so you need to stay on top of it. Don't get the "glam" rear eyelets. You can't tow with them. I got the chromed the factory ones.

We bought the Predator one last year. They only had the black. Works good and no rattling for over a year. Although, rust is starting to show around the latch. Hope that helps.

I just ordered a Tire carrier from predator yesterday and I'm going to use it to hold a 22inch KMC Backseat wheel, Can you tell me how many studs are used to hold the spare on?

4 studs are used to hold the spare

Yes it's aftermarket, from predator motorsports. I like the fact that it has a drop down feature to make it easier to remove the spare tire.

Ram, CBR I think we should all get together sometime soon to discuss Bay Area HUMMER Club! Ram Rig looks great, how do you like the predator carrier? I have been contemplating carrying them!

Okay, let's get something cleared up. NONE of these carriers use studs. Tey are all held in place using the four BOLTS that hold the tow loops brackets onto the bumper and frame. Thats 2 bolts on the right and 2 on the left. Some carriers use a third BOLT on the right side bracket to minimze shifting.

When I asked about the studs I was talking about the studs on the carrier that hold the spare. On the Predator it's 3. I know the tow loop bolts hold the actual carrier to the vehicle because I installed mine myself.

4Churchill, I really like the predator carrier. The drop down feature is excellent. And a Bay Area Hummer club sounds cool to me.

T,

The "studs" they are talking about are the threaded studs for securing the spare in place, not the bols that actually secure the carrier itself.

Having said that, the factory one uses 3 studs, the fourth opening is where the tombstone-looking license plate mount passes through.

Incidentally, a chromer I spoke with tonight said the Predator is really hard to get a good chrome finish on as the welds are not neatly done.

Oopsie! Got it. My bad! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_frown.gif Sorry guys. My apologies. You are quite right, the Predator and the new H2 carriers both secure the wheel on 3 STUDS (which I would call lugs, but are definetely NOT bolts).

Can the new '05 lic. plate holder for the spare tire carrier (it holds the lic. plate in the center of the spare tire) fit an '04 of a different year? I have the sma swing away spare tire carrier.

Not without some serious modification. But I'm working on a low cost easy to do-it-yourself conversion right now (well, once I get my truck back next week). It involves some found plumbing parts, the SMA billet license plate bracket and the dealers licence plate lamp and harness (which can only be purchased as a complete unit). I will post if it works out.

I like that pic better than the other one! http://www.elcova.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hey...the center of the wheel looks like a guy in a teddy bear costume!
