holding down the note button

I am trying to unlock the navigation controls on a 2004 with factory nav, while the vehicle is in motion, previously someone replied and said to hold down the note button and input the code of 1791 however when I hold down the note button nothing happens
is there something else that I should be doing simultaneously? Thanks
