View Full Version : How do you get a critter out of a tree? Advice needed.

There is something inside our oak tree. I don't know what it is, it only peeked out once - it looked like a chinchilla. Stubby face, extremely furry and gray, big yellow eyes. Maybe a kitten? Whatever it is, it was small, wet and skanky.
The tree isn't huge, maybe 15-20' tall, but the inside is mostly hollow. It's still alive so I don't want to take a chainsaw to it (like hubby suggested). There are about 7 holes (in the trunk and where limbs have been cut off) where this critter could have gotten in.
I stuck a hose in every hole with the water on full blast this afternoon and only managed to chase it from one part of the tree to the next and get soaked in the process. It's the only hose I have that's long enough to reach that part of our property, so flooding it out from multiple sides isn't an option. I can't smoke the thing out or use firecrackers, we're in a total burn ban due to drought conditions.
I need to get this thing out of my tree. My stupid dogs won't shut up and stay off of it - we have them tied to the side yard right now, and even tho they're a good 50 feet from the tree, they're STILL barking. Which keeps the toddler up, which drives everyone in the house insane.
So how do I get this thing out of my tree?

Buy a couple more hoses, a splitter and drown that bish.
Hey, how about a few mouse traps in the holes?

i'd let you borrow my pellet gun, but you are kinda far away. Its a really nice rifle with a big scope on it...you could pick a gnat off that furry critters backside with it....lol.

Pour 1 gallon of gasoline in it
Light it or dont light it - its up to you but it will come out either way...
Me? I would light it just for giggles.... but that would be mean.. :twak:

Smoke it out.
Back your car up to it, attached a hose from your tailpiple into the tree and give 'er some gas. It'll come out, or be dead. You might need to close up the open holes.
Or.......they sell that stuff for smoking out gophers. That should work too.

I like the gas idea!!!! It could be fun. Make a video out of it. Make sure the HUMMER is inlcuded in the vid so the tree huggers have something more to go on and on about. I'll even pitch in for the matches. :jump:
smoke is your best bet....don;t get bit by whatever the heck it is.

Gee, lots of good advice here.
I'm surprised nobody recommended a Tomahawk.

Holy length of pull DRTY, did you drop the extension to help get your cheek on the stock better?

And a better eye relief distance from the scope, it looks it is mounted as far as it can go forward.

I noticed that too. I think a Magpul PRS with some sort of LOP extension would be right up DRTY's alley. Mine came yesterday and I love it, but do need to extend the buttstock a bit further.

Never had any issues with clearance or relief. That rifle is known as "The Laser".

Have you done any mods to the laser? I cant leave something alone to save my life. The Bushmaster is no exception, give me another six months and the only stock crap left will be the recievers.

We had a pair of nasty black birds building a nest in our bar-be-que grill, I'd clean it out and the next day they'd have it filled again. There was no easy spot to put wire mesh since the whole bottom was open along with the back and sides of the hoods.
I finally took my carbide cannon, loaded it, and stuck it inside the hole where the spit goes through and BOOM. The birds stumbled out of there and never came back.
