If you have aftermarket wheels/tires do you still follow the door jam PSI ratings?

I've been running 325/50 Nitto Terra Grappler Tires for over 2 years. When I first put them on I hated the feel. So I upped the tire pressure and the handling/ride seemed to improve.

I also went from the stock 17s" to 22s" and they're waaaay heavier. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I did some research on this site and it seems most people recommend 35-40 PSI regardless of tire size. So is running at the max tire rated 60 PSI bad in anyway? :)

I have 325 Toyo's, and I run them at 60.....that is what the tire shop suggested.

Tire pressues are almost a learning class in itself. Rule of thumb... Never go lower than what is recommened on the door/gas cap/glove box. Never go higher than what is recommended on the tire. Find a happy medium, the higher the pressure the better the fuel mileage. The lower the pressure the smoother the ride. Idealy if you put those tires that are rated 60psi with 60psi on a Ford Festiva it will bounce all over the road. Better keep those mudders on the Ford at 24psi, Thats what they recommend. Tire pressure is needed to hold a vehicle up therefore the more a vehicle weights the more pressure you should have. Thats why it is best to go by whats on the door because it reflects the weight of the vehicle no matter what the tire says.

By the way... my H2 recommends 45psi and thats what my tmps is looking for. I get an e-mail if my tire pressure is off..

Thanks for the feedback guys. It's been a while since I've tried something different. I think I'll experiment a little.

My Nittos didn't wear evenly. More on the inside/outside. Lots of tread in the middle. Not sure if that's related either.

If its inside and outside its most likely low air pressure...
