Finally got my spare grille prepped, painted and installed. Plastic primer + 2 coats plastic paint (first coat "hammered" finish, second coat "textured" matte black). Seems to match the stock grille guard pretty well.
Notice pic #5, even my dog is black :)

Yep, I purchased it already painted black (but chrome underneath) from a guy on Ebay ($98 bucks delivered so not too bad), but the kid did not do a very good job on the paint. So I basically sanded it all back down to the "chrome", primed with a primer for plastic (Rustoleum) and then overcoated with two different textures, "hammered" and then "textured" (also Rustoleum), to get the "heavier" textured look. Should hold up pretty good, I would think that other than gouging or scraping off with a tool, the paint should adhere pretty well, nice thing is touchups are easy :) BTW, I used one of those spray can holders with the pistol grip and man does that make using a spray can awesome, better control and easier on the hands/fingers too...just a tip if you are gonna give it a whirl.
