First time taking the H3 to the keys and havent yet decided how Im going to mount 6 or 7 fishing rods on my 3. Thought about the hitch mount, but then cant open back door. Thought about front mount, but then NC to Islamorada is a long way to drive with 7 fishing rods infront of your face. Anyone came up with a way to mount them to the roof? Its had me beat for last couple days. Im thinking Ill just end up taking the reels off and just tying the rods up there somehow, but Id really like to have a cool setup that would be water resistant (not counting on water proof). Hell if it looked good Id just leave it up there. Once were down there we can put em inside, depending on what we are going to use that day.

http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon3.gif Take the reels off and get a big 6 inch(or larger)PVC pipe with end caps and strap it to the roof.
You will have to paint it black thoughhttp://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

I used a couple rod holders I bought for my boat and tie wraped them to my rack. Rods fit fine.

ha yeah well i told the wife i was going and that id buy her a t-shirt while i was down there, she was very very happy to hear that. It shouldnt be too bad though, fishing guide will be the expensive part but dont think well use him but once or twice just to get our bearings. Going in May (start of off season for hotels and stuff)
thought bout rod holders too, just trying to think of a way to make something that you could just elave up there and not look too bad. i dont know, i think i need to step back from this for a little while and come back fresh.

Do you have the roof rails? If so you could put the fishing pole on the roof.
Maybe a ski rack would work for fishing rods?

sure ducky, were looking for tarpon or drum mainly, but well pretty much settle for anything that bites and pulls on the end the of a rod. the bigger the better. aslong as its inshore (my fishing bud has a weak stomach, especially for someone that fights MMA). I dont give him too much s**t for it. ha
