View Full Version : H2 OEM Off Road Lights

I'm in the process of blacking out my '05 H2, so to replace my chrome brush guard I recently scored a black OEM brush guard on Craig's List which came with the 2 OEM Hummer off road lights. I know these are not PIAA's (they're BOSCH), but what the he11, they're freebies so I might as well hook 'em up. Unfortunately my H2 did not come factory equipped with OEM off road lights, so I will (most likely) have to rig my own wiring and switch. But I'm wondering if it's possible that the H2's were pre-wired at the assembly plant with the wiring harness in place that could be used for the off road lights in case a customer wanted an upgrade at their dealership? It's these 2 unused plugs that are located next to the horn behind the passenger side headlights that makes think this may be possible (see the pix).

So my questions are:

1] Does anyone know what these 2 unused plugs are for (the bottom pic)?
2] Can anyone tell me where I can find plugs to fit the OEM off road lights?
3] Do these lights pull enough amperage to require a relay?

Thanks in advance for your help!

think those are some kind of sensor maybe

Your right. I've since learned they are temperature sensors. The one on the left sends the data signal for the outside ambient air temperature to the temp display on the interior rear view mirror. The other one is a temp sensor also, but for what I don't know.

Are you sure none of these are airbag sensors?

Actually likely not airbag sensor. Just looked at mine. Since it is attached to a flimsy piece of plastic, and not front bumper.

Are you sure none of these are airbag sensors?that is waht my mechanic said he thought they were, we are wondering where the airbag sensor is, because my air bag message light is on, we think it may have been brushed accidentally when installing HID lights, anyone know where it is???

I think they are Airbag Sensor's. If you really want to find out just unplug them and stick a mulitimeter in them and see what happens. :)

wrong. They are power for your horn. I had a air horn for a bit and had to disconnect them because it would blow the fuse when hooked up to the factory horn.

Wrong again! Let me set this straight. The gray things that are on the end of the blue plugs are temperature sensors. The outboard one (the one on the left in the photo) sends the data signal for the outside ambient air temperature to the temp display on the interior rear view mirror.

You can prove this for yourself by disconnecting the gray sensor from the outboard plug, and you will see the temp display on the rear view mirror no longer displays the temp, but displays an error message "OC" instead.

If you then take the gray sensor from the other plug (the one on the right), and plug it into the plug on the left (swap them in other words), the temp display on the rear view mirror is working again. Therefore they are both identical temp sensors.

The inboard one (on the right in the photo) is there so the HVAC PCM knows what the ambient air temperature is, i.e. for the heating and air conditioning. I've verified this in the factory service manual (page 1-151). So... there it is. :D

I wonder why no one has answered the original question. I'd like to know the answer myself!

porschett, I assume you are referring to whether or not the factory equips all the H2's with a wiring harness for the OEM off road lights? I'm thinking the answer is no... here's why:

The owner's manual states that IF the vehicle is equipped with the OEM lights, the switch for the lights is located on the high ceiling mounted center console. I removed the high center console on my H2 hoping to find some un-used wires or harnesses inside. Nada. Zip. All the wires inside the console were accounted for and in use for the map lights, sunroof control, garage door opener transmitter, etc. I think that pretty much proves that if the H2 doesn't come from the assembly plant with the OEM lights already installed, then there is no wiring harness in place for them. :(

you have to buy the harness, if you can find it, separately or you can get one made, that is what I did. you can find the connectors on Ebay, the are called weatherpack GM connectors, buy a kit, it is pretty cheap.

The off road lights didn't come shipped on the vehicle. They were installed at the dealership and the harness comes with the lights. The air bag sensors are behind the front bumper. You can see them with the skidplate off. Just get the wiring harness from the dealership. There are a couple of relays and the switch comes with it.
