The spare tire is to close to my trailer jack and comes in conntact with it when making turns. The roof is not an option (garage door hight). No more hard points in cargo area for bolting in tire bracket. Other than laying flat in cargo area or omitting spare all together does anyone have any ideas.

Thanks

On my Yukon and Bronco before that I had made a bracket and it hung in the Garage all the time I owned vehicles and my Avalanche as well. I just bought one of those big cans of fix the leak and air fill. Never used it. I'm getting ready to do something with this spare too because it's a real pain in the butt to have to swing it away every time before lifting tailgate. Plus the trailer factor and extending hitch which is not best thing for trailering. So hang it in garage and Good Luck.:iagree:

I'll put it in the garage. I never had a flat on any of my H2s. Back in 2003 when storage of the spare tire in the cargo area was the norm I thought the rear of the truck looked much better. I won't miss the extra weight either. But of course it can't be that easy. Vehical tag lighting wire now comes out of the bumper cover through a grommet. A plate bracket bolted to the recovery loop mounting could be an easy out but I find the vibration of these makes for a short bulb life. I'll look at routing wires to the original mounting area on the rear door. I,m off to get a can of green goo.

Thanks

a word of warning before taking it off: i took it off my 08' then noticed that the back of the truck rose up about 2" and the front nosed down. The ride was noticably worse. and the handeling was wierd. The tire and rack weighs close to 290 pounds. I weighed it. The suspension is set up to accomodate that weight and overhang on the back of the truck. I was going to crank up the t bars to raise the front, but just decided not to mess with it and leave it alone. I put it back on within a day.

what i did is to put some longer screws then put first some bolts that will serve as a spacer.
hope it helps.
have a nice day..

I had the same problem and I bought a hitch extender. Made for HUMMER. I bought mine on e-bay for $40. Not for real heavy trailers though.

I have the same issues with trailers! I dont have any issues with my boat or seadoo (2) trailer. With my 5x8 enclosed trailer, it rides too close, so I got an 18 inch extender. Dang thing is solid and weighs about 25-30 pounds.

You could maybe mount your spare on the trailer?? Not sure if that would work. Good luck. I thought about leaving mine int he garage too.

The thing about the 08s and probably a few of the previous years is there are no license plate lights on the rear hatch, what are you guys doing for lights on your license plate if your mounting it where the license plates go on the 03-05 h2s (middle center of the rear hatch) ??

One on the gobi and one on the swing arm.

Thanks Mate, The reason I ask is I'm going to have a dual swingarm carrier for the rear and had wondered if you'd done it.

Since you have decided to put your spare in the garage I predict your first flat within a week!!!

When we remove the spare, we get a license plate pocket for an 03-04 and wire it into the clearance lights since there is not a harness either.
