Not something you just decided to eat, but something that is actually a real food dish, whether it be in this country or others. From going to several different countries ive goten to try some weird food, and the weirdest ive ever eaten is either snake, which i ate in china, or kangaroo which i had in Australia. Whats the weirdest food youve ever eaten?

Roasted grasshoppers, chocolate covered (clumped)ants, bugs (like slugs/escargot) in Australia, eel (before it was cool) in Poland, jellied pigeon in Hong Kong, alligator, horse in Mexico (though I didn't realize it immediately .. the worst taste ever). I'm sure there are other things I've blocked out from my travels.

Hmmm2 you beat us all. I had the snake by mistake, we were having a duck dinner in Beijieng, and they brought out this appetizer, at the time i thought it was the main meal being duck so i started eating it. My friends then said "Justin the duck isnt out yet", scared yet curious at the delicous food i was eating i asked the waitress and surely enough she said "snake" after that it didnt taste good anymore. The Kangaroo i had when i was over in Australia and suprisingly it is EXTREMELY good, im not gonna lie its probably better than steak, also had emu and crocidile when i was over there but i wouldnt consider those as weird as the other two.
and BigDad i have to ask, how was dog, i couldnt imagine eating dog no matter what.

I couldn't eat dog, either. When I was in Macau, there were black dogs everywheres ... many maimed. At the same time, dog was on the menu. I always wondered if they were just caught outside the back door and roasted. People on the beach would roast dog, while their pet dog would be romping around having fun. That's just WRONG! :crying:

I was in the same boat as you, I didn't know it was dog or cat at either time.
The dog was chewy and the cat was ground up like hamburger on pita bread. And, it was gnasty! Still feel that stuff coming back up every now and then.

Dog in Nigeria. It was cooked real good and spiced up a lot. It king of reminded me of beef jerky. (after about a half a dozen warm beers that is)
Here in Mexico it would have to be ants. There is a little town about an hour away from us where ants is their local delicacy. They take them and make some kind of paste out of them. Yuck!:notallthere:

OMG, that happened to us in Hong Kong. The large table next to us (family with kids) had a lazy susan in the center with a big fish bowl. In the bowl were live frogs and shrimp. Every so often the waiter would come over and pour something from a bottle into the bowl. I thought it was just a center piece. Long story short ... the lazy susan was actually a heat plate .. and the waiter was adding something like wine or vermouth. The shrimp and frogs were jumping trying to get out. Soon they slowed down. The waiter then spooned the cooked frogs and shrimp onto the plates and the people just slurped them up. :notallthere:
Also, I saw some of you list (cow's) tongue and conch. Conch is like a staple in S. FL .. I had that daily for years. I've had lots of tongue, too ().. don't get the wrong idea ok? ROFLOL. Tongue has a weird texture.
I've traveled a lot through the years, so have had lots of weird stuff. I'm not afraid to try foods of the locals.

I love neat foods but I'd hate to have to kill it or watch it die for me. I don't think I could be a hunter although I have a lot of respect for them and love deer meat more than anything. Neither could I watch a frog (don't care to try that one) slowly boil.

Yeah, I only had conch when in the Bahamas, never in FL where I live. However, I have had alligator here locally. It was on the menu at a restaurant that was later destroyed by a tornado and also at the seafood festivals you can usually get it. Bonefish might have it too, I know someone else does.

I wouldn't expect that there would be any conch in northern FL .. it comes from Key Largo and south. Wow, 3Hummer, where've you been? LOL. I used to thrive on conch fritters at lunch... mostly around the downtown Miami restaurants. You would always see them on the appetizer or happy hour menus. I lived in Coral Gables, but would also find conch at some eateries in Kendall, Homestead and anywheres from Tavernier south. You gotta get out and live! LOL! :D Well, sure .. all of the Bahamian islands have conch .. that's a given. You can also buy something like 8 huge conch shells for a dollar from the locals. LOL. The Caribbean is full of conch.

Oh $hit...I forgot all about those....
Back in the military...got off work around 1 am and went to a party with a buddy before going home. We were starving so we hit the kitchen, there was a bowl of fried mountain oysters and cold beer.
Neither one of us knew what they were. Beer was cold and they were tasty. Till this blond hottie walks into the kitchen and says "Oh, you guys like mountain oysters too!" I had just finished my beer and had a mouthful of the "oyster".
It took about 3 seconds for the mountain part to register in my brain and I spit it out on the floor grabbed the closest beer off the table and started swigging it down.
Unfortunately it was half full of cigarette butts. That felt like they went straight to my stomach. A quick minute later and I was puking in the kitchen trash can.
And I never showed my face at that house again.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN OYSTER RECIPE
Ingredients:
mountain oysters
flour
salt
pepper
paprika
garlic
cayenne
Preparation
Season the flour with the salt, pepper, paprika, garlic, and cayenne.
If the mountain oysters are large, cut them into bite sized chunks.
Dust the mountain oysters in the flour and saute in a pan of hot oil or deep fry. They should be tender on the inside and crisp on the outside.
Serve with horseradish sauce or cocktail sauce.
 I'll take a pass on this one.

Casu Marzu
Casu Marzu is a cheese made in Sardinia, Italy.
To make it, you start with pieces of Pecorino Sardo cheese. You set the cheese out in the open, uncovered, and allow cheese flies (aka scientific name "Piophila casei") to lay eggs in the cheese.
The eggs in it hatch into transparent white maggots about 1/3 inch (8 mm) long. Sometimes, instead of waiting for the flies to lay eggs, the maggots are introduced into the cheese at the maggot stage to speed the process along.
A piece of the Pecorino can be populated by thousands of maggots. As the maggots feed on the cheese, they cause the cheese to ferment and the fats in it to decompose. The cheese becomes very soft, with liquid weeping out of it. The drops of liquid are called "lagrima", meaning "tears."
The finished cheese has a very strong, pungent burning taste. It is generally served with the Sardinian bread called "pane carasau" and red wine.
Some people wear eye protection when eating the cheese, because the maggots can jump up to 6 inches (15 cm.)
Some remove the maggots before eating the cheese, most people do not. They just focus on eating the cheese.
The maggots can be forced out by sealing the cheese in a bag, suffocating them. You'll hear the worms hitting the side of the bag as they jump out of the cheese, looking for air.
Casu Marzu is seen as a manly thing to eat. Most women tend to avoid it.
People consuming it reputedly run the risk of the larvae, which can remain unaffected by stomach acids, taking up residency in the intestines and boring through their flesh. It cannot legally be sold in Italy, but it is sold on the black market in Sardinia. At markets in Sardinia, it is often kept under the table for trusted customers.
It is particularly served at special occasions such as weddings, birthdays and bachelor parties. The ban on the cheese has just given the eating experience an extra edge.
If you ate that your a sick sister fuvker !!!
