I was sat in my office the other day when one of my neighbors in the complex came in and shouted, "Hey man! There's smoke pouring out from the top of your Hummer!"

From one or two other posts that I read I knew instantly what the problem was.
Somehow the button for the off road lights got bumped and they'd been left on for a while. I can't figure out how it happened because my hand wasn't anywhere near that button but none the less, the off road lights were on.
The light covers were rapidly turning to molten goo but I managed to get them off before there was damage done to anything other than just the covers.
I personally don't see much of a point in having the off road lights being able to be switched on without the engine running but that's me. One of my wheeling buddies insists that it's a feature, not a bug. I see it as a hazard.
And while I'm on the topic, how many of you with the factory, roof mounted off road lights view them as anything other than completely worthless?
I've had them on a few times but it seems that no matter how they're pointed they only highlight the dirt and dead bugs on my windshield, and It's pretty hard to keep a clean windshield when you're off road.
If I'm interested in seeing past the hood of my truck I'm far better off just using the high beams.
Maybe someone has a suggestion as to how I can get better results with the off road lights.
