3 times in the last month I''ve had an issue with start up. After running my Humvee for 20 minutes or so and then trying to start it again an hour or so later, I turn the key on and the wait light doesn't come on. I wait a few seconds, try to start it and it turns over but doesn't start. I wait between an hour and overnight and it'll start again. It's never done it when the truck's been sitting for several days, starting right up without issue. I looked at the protective control box...it looks pretty new. Anyone had this issue? (1986 M998)

First thought says the glow plug controller. Have you converted your truck to 12 volt or is it still 24? If it is 12 here is some good tips http://flashoffroad.com/Diesel/GlowPlug/DieselGlowplug.htm If you are still running on 24 I am sure some others will step in and help more than I can....

it sounds like you have a bad Glow plug controller.... its locatedon the water jacket near the t-stats.... has a bunch of wires going to it (6 I believe)... you have three options....

1. replace the glow plug controller and it will fix it, but it will occur again
2. hard wire the glow plug controller to a button that you dictate when to operate the glow plugs
3. get a KDS control box that will not use the GPC, rather always cycle the glow plugs....
