A good friend of mine is travelling to New York in a couple of weeks. He just LOVES to eat in the best / most special restaurants of the world ? Any suggestions for New York ??

The real high end:
Japanese - Nobu in SoHO not uptown (went again recently and it was amazing try some of the recommended cooked dishes as well they are superb)
Others:
Per Se
Daniel
The River Cafe (spectacular views of Manhattan from across the Brooklyn Bridge)
11 Madison (used to be better IMHO, but still top notch)

A bit less high end but very good:

Public(owned by friends of mine,but this is still an honest opinion they have done several restaurants around the world now)
Double Crown (same crew as above just opened a month ago,so he can be ahead of the crowd)
Mercat (tapas, this is on a block where some of the newest most beautiful luxury condos are being built, very cool to see)
Alto
Luppa

Per Se is a 7 or 9 course price fixe which will leave you stuffed to the gills so if he goes he should be hungry. Will definitely need a hotel concierge to get into most of the high end ones.

Carmine's is a great Italian restaurant serving excellent family style portions. In Manhattan. They have a sister restaurant in Atlantic City NJ. 2 hours drive south if he wants to travel also 4 star all around!

The NY Carmines has been there for many years and done extremely well while the AC NJ location only about 7 years...
