So tonight I took out the NAV radio on my 06 H2 and put a toggle switch on the dash for the VSS sensor wire to allow me to be able to use the NAV search feature while driving (my wife of course will be the passegner using while I am driving!)
Tested it out and works great. While driving hit the switch and the grayed out searches are now able to be manipulated. The question I have is that I have seen some state that with the VSS wire in the open position, the NAV still works but can get jumpy. When I open the circuit for the VSS wire, it allows me to navigate the menus but the map does not change my position at all until on the map until I close the circuit again. Anyone else experience this as well?

Question: what not just replace the factory unit with an aftermarket like I did, that already has a built in override feature. Kenwood indash DX5120

I like the stock unit and also like the built in XM. Also the switch was only $3!!!!

yes, that is how it is... that is why the switch is there... it temporarily suspends the gps and it kicks back on when you turn the switch back off...
was that some sort of trick question?:)

Well, it's obvious he thought that by installing the switch, you could just leave it on and forget about it.
Having said that, I guess then you wouldn't have had to put a switch in it, you could have jumped a wire and forgot about it.

I had read some posts on the web that the GPS would work without the VSS wire as it would use the GPS antenna if the VSS wire was disabled. One post I read stated that although the NAV would work with the VSS wire disabled, the vehicle position on the screen could get "jumpy" and that the VSS wire helped the positioning of the unit based ont he speed of the vehicle and that is why you should not just disconnect the wire. When I did the mod yesterday I was not expecting the tracking to stop completly when the circuit was opened.
