View Full Version : Choice between Superchips or Nelson's Performance tune?

If you had to make a choice by using a Hypertech or Superchips tuning setup, would you choose either one of those over sending the ECM to say, Nelson's Performance?

When I had my supercharger on my older H2, I sent the ECM to Nelsons. Obviously, my choice would be to have the truck tuned via laptop but since I don't know anyone that does that around here, I'm trying to do the next best thing.

Thanks,

Mark

Superchips, you can change the shift point to where you like them and adjust without sending your ecm out.

you can alsp use the superchips programmer for checking into DTC's if you have issues.

in my case, I use for warranty reasons. If I did the custom tune, and than go in for warranty works, I cannot back out the programming like I can with the progarmmer. (I know you don;t hav ethe warranty issue, but thought I would mention that for others reading in).

you might as well just wiat it out.....we all know your going to SC this truck yet. :fdance:

Ahhhh shadup, you sound like my wife... LOL.

I actually ordered a Diablo programmer today. We'll see how that works.

Westers Garage!! I had them tune my Denali and it kicked ass. I am in the process of having my H2 tuned by them now.

I've got the same question......I'm about to install my Magnacharger and Magnasun sent me the Superchips Programmer(over $400) and now it seems like Nelson can do a better job?? I don't know if I will start with the Superchips and see how it goes, and then go to Nelson from there......Confusing!!!!!

The problem with Nelson's tuning is it's generic "tune in a can". They dyno a similiar setup at their shop and then use that tune to install in your ECM.

The problem is, since each truck is slightly different, I guarantee you there is probably a 20% safety factor sitting on the table.

The best way to dyno tune is obviously put the truck on a dyno. (hard to find all wheel drive dynos and expensive)

In my opinion, the absolute best way to tune a car is via laptop. It will give you real world driving conditions. A dyno tune is really for race cars that are at WOT in 3rd or 4th gear. (thus usually leaving issues with driveability, etc, etc.)

Well Guys I just Got Back From Super Chip Tuning I was On The Coarse To Learn How To Tune Using A Laptop I also Own A H2 2003 The biggest problem is that each vechicle is different & on the 2003 ecm is different than the ecm on the 2004 H2 And Up..But i found that i could tune my 2003 using the super chip tuner..This tuner works on the 2003 only ...After the tune i could get into the computor & change a few things but not all..Anyway with the new programers we can tune all h2s..All we need is your Vin # that allows us to get into the ecm..I will be working on custom tunes in the next while for the h2s .WE can than program them into the sct programer & will be able to offer custom tunes for the h2s...If you want to read more check it out at sctflash.com

The reason we are doing this as we need to custom tune them to except our hydrogen generator..If we add hydrogen the ecm thinks we are running lean & dumps more fuel in..So we have to tune it to except 91 octane
