Anyone have any suggestions as to the best brand of Fender Flares. I was going to get the E&G classic Wide EG5308-2400-03W but don't want to bore holes in the fender of our new vehicle . I am now considering the E&G 5308-2400-03, but the pics on their website look as if the ABS material is of a more shiny finish than the stock fenders flares and rocker panel cover.
Our vehicle is black so ideally I am looking for a set which I can fit without painting but also one where the fender flares will look the same as the remaining factory trim along the rocker panels.
As always, any and all suggestions much appreciated.

Gotta bump this thread. Saw a long thread about poor E&G customer service and expensive replacement parts that made me not want to go there. Anyone have any suggestions? Or has E&G gotten better since then? I don't mind putting holes in the fenders. Just want decent flares for a decent price.
Thanks

Try SAE Parts on eBay as they have some fender flares available...similar to the LE fender flares but a little wider (3" if memory serves me) and they use 3M tape so you don't need to drill any holes.

That's my biggest gripe about these types of parts for our trucks...everything uses 3M tape. If I put something on the outside of my truck, I damn sure want it BOLTED on; cause I'm liable to knock it off. LOL!
Even the E&G flares use double stick if I remember correctly...they double stick to the existing flares then you bolt them to the truck. Still kind of a ghetto rig in my opinion.
I never did find a solid aftermarket flare that replaced the factory ones AND secured in, what I would consider, and acceptable manner. It's like everything on the market was just for 'looks.' I don't want rugged 'looks'...I just want rugged.
EDIT: Side note...SAE Parts on eBay has GREAT prices and customer service!
Hi the Special Edition hummers that had the cut outs in the rocker panels for the side steps came with different flairs and they attach the same way as the stock flairs. They are about 1 inch wider and go up the body farther about 1 1/2 inch than stock. I put the SE rockers and flairs, that were painted gloss black, on my white truck from SAE parts, very nice people to deal with. I do like the way they look on my truck.

E&G has stick on and bolt on I believe. Check this thread out: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39430&highlight=E%26G
My problem is that I've heard bad things about E&G, so I'm nervous to use them. I need the widest flares I can find so I don't think the LE's will work for me.

Well I heard that someone got two of the same piece and none of another piece and had a hard time getting them to exchange it. And someone else ripped off one of the rear mud flaps and E&G tried to charge them WAY too much for a replacement piece. I think it was close to half of the price for the whole kit.
Ahhh, found the thread: http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34788&highlight=E%26G
I would like to here what Reggie has to say.

You're absolutely right Brent, I have EG&G Fender Flares on my H2. Installation is a snap; just make sure you have a sharp drill bit for piloting the holes for the mounting screws. General fit and finish is nice and the color matches up nicely with the stock unpainted trim. If you don't wheel your truck you should have no reason to need after sale customer service support. I’ve had my flares on for 2 years without issue. Highly recommend the flares if you have a wheel offset of -24 or greater due to the road grime that gets thrown up from the tires because they extend past the wheel well. Go for it Mark!

Theres nothign wrong w/ a good 3m doublesided adhesive tape. Put that **** on a clean surface and it will never come off.
I'll be putting on my E&G flares this week!

The only two out there for the H2 are the street scene and the E&G's. Not a fan of the costs of these things, but needed a wider flare to cover my 40's to pass inspection here in my state, so went with the E&G's. I can honestly say they are not bad, they look great. Came out nice and wide, look is the same as the factory flare so it matches up with the middle strip that runs below the doors. Kind of like the fact that they bolt on, can't really see how something that sticks out that far could hang on with double sided tape alone, so glad that they bolt on. Really like how they come around in the back and make up a mud flap around the rear bumper too. Haven't had to work with E&G at all for the customer service, but I am very pleased with how they turned out.

do these match the factory black/grey plastic like the stock flares? they look a bit more glossy. i get alot of stuff flinging up all over my truck now just from rain. thinking about wider flares but i want it to match.

If they are too glossy or shiny looking I'm just gonna go ahead and spray them with Rustoleum bedliner. Same stuff I used on all the chrome pieces on my H2. It's only 9$ a can and it works really good. Touch ups are a just a quick spray and it's been holding up really well since i did everything last summer.

Its pretty similar...I have so much material on that stock center piece from wetsanding right now, can't give you a 100% answer. I need to clean it up and possibly try some of that rubber/bumper restorer. If that doesn't work, I'm just going to shoot everythign black.

Yeah...the flap was one of the reasons I didn't go with these flares years ago. If you were into fabbing fiberglass you could prolly mod the end of the rear flares to a close and forgo the flap...then have them sprayed body color or Line-Xed when you were done.
What about the Street Scene flares? http://www.amazon.com/Street-Scene-Fender-Flares-2003/dp/B000JQ66VW

when i think about it, my backspacing on the wheels is 1" less than the stock wheels. so if i were to get a flare with 1" more...you figure it would cover the wheel enough to make it normal again ....right? so the 3.5" flares of the E&G are a bit much, but the street scenes may be just enough to give me what i need without looking too aggressive.

For a minute I thought you had posted pics of my truck...LOL! That's pretty much how mine looks 24/7. He gets a bath once every two months in the summer and once a month in the winter...in between those, we just roll dirty.
Honestly, I don't think you'll fair much better even with the larger flares. The tires are big, they've got aggressive tread, and the wheel-wells are too exposed...the tire's gonna throw it up and the wind is going to paint it down the side of your rig regardless.
Fender skirts might do the trick?! :)

I agree that it will help keep it off some of your truck. But remember, our trucks sit high...your's even higher now with the lift, so you're throwing a lot of that dirt UNDER your flare.
Check out the illustration I did with accely's ride...
The larger flares will definitely help the green section but the flare would still be missing all the crap that gets thrown under it toward the rest of the truck (depicted in brown...'cause dirt is usually brown :) ). And your 'brown' area will be much larger because your truck sits up higher, thus altering the angle that separates the two regions.
...look at me all scientific and sh!t with diagrams; can't beat that! Plus, I'm bored.

You have a good point there with that nice illustration. So if I'm gonna get flares, don't expect them to stop everything. So that makes me consider the street scene flares more then. I like how they look stock but their a lot cheaper than the e&g and only .5" thiner than the e&g

I have the older fabtech lift which pushes my wheels out an extra 3", which adds to the problem. I agree with Guru and his diagram except for one thing. The diagram is perfect if you're sitting still spinning in a mud hole, but if you're moving there will be wind pushing the green area back/down further. Anyway I know it's not going to solve the problem but I think flares will help. I guess I'll find out once I put them on.

Not to mention how much flare will keep stuff off the hood and windshield. Especially sticking out 3". It's gonna keep a good majority under the truck

I don't know much about Rancho, but I did mis-speak about the Fabtech. The older ones move everything out 1.5" on each side (3" total, not each side). I had a cracked spacer that goes between the front diff and the front axles, Fabtech sent me 3, 1/2" spacers to use because they don't make the 1.5" spacer anymore because the newer kits only push out 1/2". Of course wheel offsets and widths will also affect how far you tires stick out.

02-28-2012, 08:10 PM
so i went and measured how far my wheels stick out past the fenders. the rear is 2" past the stock flare and the front is 3.5" past the stock flares. and the stock flares are what? 1.5" wide? and no one makes a 5" flare...and i dont think i would want that ayways. seems like too much. the street scene flares are 3.5" so im getting an extra 2" which will be enough in the rear but a bit short in the front.the E&G flares are 4" wide so 2.5" more.....hmmm. and i really liek the idea of not having to drill into the hood for the E&G flares.
this is the front...

Me personally, I'd rather have ones that physically bolt on (like the E&Gs) as opposed to stick on with 3M tape. That said, I do like the look of the Street Scenes better though.

02-28-2012, 08:28 PM
arent the stock ones stick on atthe top and bolt on at the bottom? i imagine that the larger the flare, like the E&G , they would have ot be bolted on due to wind, but i dont really have an issue with the stick onones like street scene. they still bolt on the inside of the fenders.

Just thought id add my comment. after putting on xd cranks with a big offset my tyres stuck out about 3 or 4 inches so went with the e and g flares. took a few hours to bolt on but well worth it. was worried they wouldnt cover the tyres as out laws say tyres must be. but all good now. i see some comments on cost but man try getting them couriered off shore ive paid double probably than in the states. but the joy off owning and driving a h2 is worth it.
