View Full Version : WTF?!

I went out with the family to a steak house restaurant and when I came to the door I noticed this. Someone was trying to break into my truck. WTF!

I hear the lock tumbler stuck in between my door and my interior panel.

Anybody know what this is going to cost?

The service dept closed earlier in the day...and this happened during dinner time.

They didn't take anything...then again...I think the thief or thieves got spooked by other patrons because it didn't seem like they even got in. Maybe they attempted to break in...but decided against it?

I think it's pretty easy to break into American made vehicles...is it not?

Some feedback would be appreciated.

Pretty common problem with some of the GM vehicles.
Might want to read through a couple of these post to prevent it from happening again.

Sorry that it happened and that that I cannot tell you what it would cost to fix it, someone may come forward with that answer or it could be in one of the links below, I think I seen $300.00.

I had the same thing happen to my 2005 H2 a few weeks ago. Took it the the dealer, total cost was less then $300.00 to repair. Consider getting Jimmy Jammers for both front doors and while there's no guarantee it will prevent breaking into your vehicle, it's another layer of protection.

I paid $451.31 for the following:

F-Handle $88.52
F-Cylinder $106.18
Labor was $218.90

I was thinking about claiming insurance, but I figured just to swallow the loss.

I'll think about jimmyjammer, but the service advisor advised not altering the door because if the thief really wants to, they'll still get in.

My guess is - just park your Hummer as close to the business or restaurant as possible w/o any door dings. I parked it close to the street so I wouldn't get any door dings, but I guess door dings is more preferable than a break in.

what's everyone's take on it?

Sorry guys but the billet buckets dont stop the thieves. I have seen several with severaly damaged door skins because the theives tore up the door to get around the bucket and they still got in.

The best thing to do is to do 3 things:
-Get an alarm with warning remote
-Billet door buckets
-Jimmy Jammer plates

i agree about getting an aftermarket alarm. i have a python(wish i got viper) with alarm and remote start. works really well. its got sensors so if someone fidgets with your doors for more than a few seconds then the alarm will go off... and trust me its annoying as hell. my buds tap my truck every once in a while just to set off the alarm because its pretty sensitive :fdance:

The newest ones will even alert you if you are within a mile of your rig which is handy. i would go with one like this. it says retail 650$ but ive seen them for as low as 250$

I have an aftermarket alarm (which is great peace of mind knowing if someone broke in, they aren't moving the 4ton of beast - at least not easily), but STILL I've had two idiots do the same damage to my drivers side door. I seem to remember it costing around $170 back in '06, it recently happened last year and I recall it costing closer to $350-$400...I'm not sure if I just remembered wrong the first time around, if the damage wasn't as severe, or inflation took effect...either way that's what you can expect.

Just get yourself a dog like this one (my brother's) and leave him in the car while you go to eat. Bring him back a juicy steak and he will love you forever.

Sorry to hear the bad news, at least your door skin isnt all f'd up. I'm shocked to see so many replies with the same problems! So far I guess I'm pretty lucky.

Yeah, I'm kinda of thankful that it was just the door handle...and not the paint. Getting body work would be painful.

Anyways, I hope this doesn't happen again....(knock on wood)

This my first post so I will start with hello.

Now on to the original posters situation. my anti-theft system consists of a Desert Eagle 50 Cal and for $1.65 I will change a thiefs life.

I've found that my Viper with the transmitter, combined with my .45cal Kimber helps. I had someone mess with my door once just for a second or two, and I was alerted via my transmitter before the alarm went off, so I was down there with a loaded clip pointed at the guy before he could get away. Guaranteed nobody messes with my ride without taking a few trying to get away. I have absolutely no respect for those out there trying to take what some of us work so hard to earn, hopefully everyone else is feeling me when I say this...

LOL - love the dog idea too, although I do have two lil beasts to baby sit the big boy, I don't take them everywhere! :)

the first time I got broken into it was in a train station parking lot while I was in NYC working for the day. They hit over 30 Audi's and my H2, the stole the haligen lights out of ALL of the Audi's, the police told me the aftermarket/black market on the haligen lights was high, my gut tells me either my alarm scared them away once they openned the door (good thing for aftermarket), they were on the tail end of their spree when they hit the big boy and just bailed, or the fact that the truck is built like a brick ****-house prevented them from walking away with anything inside :) eitherway, made me happy not to be an Audi owner that day! LOL
